  • 1. All workers must attend the Monday morning HSE Field Meeting at the designated time (ask your foreman) and participate in Stretch & Flex
  • 2. The project site is tobacco-free, no cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, or e-cigarettes will be allowed onsite at any time. Smoke breaks can be taken on the south sidewalk of 23rd Street.
  • 3. Gloves are required to be worn 100% of the time while on the project unless indicated on your PSI.
  • 4. PCL Hard Hat Requirement:  All workers will have their names on their hardhats (if needed, ask project management to provide one. Workers new to the site will have a red band added to their hard hat for the first 30 days.  All workers will have a safety reorientation at the 30-day mark, once completed the red tape can be removed.
  • 5. Work Boots: Steel or composite toe work boots. Check your boots, and make sure they are not cracked, have holes, tears, or wear/damage to the treads, etc.
  • 6. The PCL Safety Hotline: The PCL Safety Hotline is located on the safety board. This number should be called if your safety issues aren't being addressed by project management.
  • 7. Distractions: No electronics are allowed that prevent you from being aware of the activity in your area.
  • 8. Training Certifications: All personal certifications should be maintained and available on request (rigger, confined space trained, forklift, AWP, etc. Do you have any certificates relating to your work duties on this project? If so, please provide to project management.
  • 9. Project HSE Plan:  The HSE Site Specific Plan is in the lower level of the building near the safety board.
  • 10. Global Harmonization System (GHS) and Safety Data Sheets SDS): Global system for format and information on the SDS. New standardized hazard symbols for products (see wall poster). A list of chemicals is maintained in the job site trailer. If you bring a new chemical to the job site, give that information to the superintendent. An electronic copy of any SDS can be obtained by asking any member of project management.
  • 11. Hot Work: Hot work training requirements may be required. All companies and workers must follow this project's hot work program. A permit will be issued daily for all hot work activities.
  • 12. Public Protection:  Do not disrupt or engage with the public and evaluate your task to verify the public is not at risk from work activities.
  • 13. Barricades: When using the barricade access doors between the construction areas and the public areas, verify the doors/gates are completely latched/locked behind you. Do not remove any barricades without approval.
  • 14. Fall Protection: Required when working at heights of 6'. Fall protection task plans will be required when working at heights. All workers in a scissor lift must use fall restraint protection. Shock-absorbing lanyards are not allowed.
  • 15. Fall Protection Training: Workers shall be trained in the use of fall protection and the specific systems that will be utilized prior to working near a leading edge.
  • 16. Leading Edge Protection: Tools, equipment, material shall not be staged or set next to a leading edge or guardrail.
  • 17. Swing Fall Hazard Awareness: Self Retracting lifeline (SRL) shall be positioned above your head to eliminate or limit the swing fall radius
  • 18. Leading Edge Retractables: Only certified leading edge retractables shall be used on site. In all cases, retractables should be used in a vertical position.
  • 19. Falling Object Protection: At all times work activity must be evaluated and controls implemented to prevent material, tools and equipment from falling to a lower area.
  • 20. Tethering: When working at heights all tools, equipment and material shall be appropriately tethered to prevent falling or accidental displacement.
  • 21. Overhead Perimeter Work: Workers shall not be positioned below where there is work above.  Area below to be barricaded and removed at the end of shift.  Barricade tags shall be used with all baricades.  When barricades are not feasible a spotter shall be designated.
  • 22. Warning Lines: No warning lines will be utilized on this project.  Roof work may request use of warning lines but require approval of project management.  If approved for use, workers shall provide the following:  A fall protection task plan shall outline the use.  All warning lines shall be set back 15' from the leading edge of work. Signage and barricade tags shall be installed on the warning line.
  • 23. PCL Quality: I have reviewed the PCL Quality information included with this orientation.
  • 24. PCL Disciplinary Policy: 1st offense: worker will be given a documented verbal warning.  2nd offense: worker will be issued a written warning.  3rd offense: worker may be suspended, terminated or removed from site.
  • PCL reserves the right to terminate any worker on a single HSE infraction, with or without prior notice.

  • 25. Medical Information:   First Aid Kits and AEDS are in the job site trailer and the lower level of the building. Medical facility information is in the job site trailer and posted on the safety board in the lower level of the building. It is not your responsibility to help someone in distress but let project management know asap.  PCL will clean the surrounding area by cleaning up all biohazard materials, including, but not limited to needles, condoms, etc.
  • 26. Parking: Parking is allowed on 15th Avenue South and Bloomington Avenue. Always lock your vehicle
  • 27. Pre-Job Safety Instruction Form (PSI): A PSI must be completed daily by the foreman or lead person for each scope of work.  All workers performing that task(s) will review the PSI, print their name where indicated and initial after breaks.  PSIs are audited regularly by project management.  At the end of the workday, PSIs will be handed in at the job site trailer.
