  • HEALTH GUIDELINES

  • If your child is sick and you are unsure if they should attend school, please use these guidelines below to help you make that judgment.

    1.Cough, cold & nasal congestion

A child with a minor cough or cold may attend school. If the cold is accompanied by a temperature, shivers or drowsiness, the child shouldn’t attend school and we recommend that they see a doctor. If your child has nasal congestion, they should not attend school except if it is caused by an allergy. If this is the case, you will need to clarify what the allergy is caused by. We ask that you return your child to school 24 hours after they start to feel better. If your child has a severe and long-lasting cough, consult your doctor for advice.

    2. Raised temperature

If your child has a raised temperature, they shouldn't attend school (a raised temperature is considered anything higher than 37°C If your child has a raised temperature accompanied by other symptoms, BCIS recommends that you consult your doctor. Your child should only return to school 24 hours after symptoms are no longer present.

    3. Sore Throat

A sore throat alone doesn't have to keep a child from school. However, if it is accompanied by a raised
temperature or other symptoms, your child should stay at home.

    4. Headache

A child with a minor headache doesn't usually need to be kept off school. If the headache is more severe or is accompanied by other symptoms, such as a raised temperature or drowsiness, then keep your child off school and please consult your doctor.

    5. COVID-19

If your child tests positive for COVID-19 or is showing symptoms, parents must inform the school immediately, they should remain at home for at least 5 days. Your child should only return to school 24 hours after symptoms are no longer present. Once the illness has passed, please provide a doctor’s certificate stating that the student is fit to return to school or a negative test result, if required. The school will take necessary cleaning and disinfection measures.

    6. H1N1/Flu

If your child has H1N1 or they are showing flu like symptoms such as a cough, sore throat, body aches, chills
or headaches, they should remain at home for at least 5 days. Your child should only return to school 24 hours after symptoms are no longer present. Once the illness has passed, please provide a doctor’s certificate stating that the student is fit to return to school.

    7. Rash

Skin rashes can be the first sign of many infectious illnesses, such as chickenpox and measles. Children with these conditions shouldn't attend school. If your child has a rash, check with your doctor before they return to school.

    8. Vomiting and diarrhea

Children with diarrhea and/or vomiting should definitely be kept off from school for at least 48 hours after their symptoms have gone. In most cases of diarrhea and vomiting, children recover without treatment. However, if symptoms persist, consult your doctor.

    9. Chickenpox

If your child has chickenpox, keep them off school for at least 5 days until all their blisters have crusted over.

    10. Hand Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD)

    11. Conjunctivitis

    12. Head lice and nits

If a student is found to be infested with head lice or nits, they will be sent home. An information sheet will be sent home to the parent/guardian. Upon return to school after treatment, a head check is required by the school nurse and/or principal’s designee in the presence of the parent/guardian for re-admittance. Parents/guardians must transport their child to school on the morning of the head check.

  • PARENT’S COMMITMENT

  • At BCIS Phuket, we believe that cooperation between all parties involved in the children’s education is important, and thus reminds parents that they are an integral part of this effort. As such, the parents will engage in active collaboration with the school.

  • DECLARATION

  • As a parent, I accept the following guidelines:

    1. Adherence to School Policies and Codes of Conduct:

    - I understand that my child's continued enrolment at BCIS Phuket is contingent upon adhering to the school's policies, terms of the enrolment contract, and codes of conduct.
    - I agree to support and ensure my child complies with all school rules, policies, and behavior expectations.

    2. Behaviour and Conduct:

    - I acknowledge that the school has established specific codes of conduct to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
    - If my child's behavior consistently fails to meet these standards, despite the school's efforts to provide guidance and support, I understand that the school reserves the right to reconsider my child's enrolment.

    3. Termination of Enrolment:

    - Subject to local law, I understand that BCIS Phuket reserves the right to discontinue my child's attendance for any appropriate reason to be decided at the discretion of School including where there is a significant breach of the school's policies or codes of conduct. Where necessary, the decision to terminate enrolment will be made in consultation with the parents or guardians, and any relevant parties, to ensure that it is in the best interest of both the student and the school community.

    4. Communication and Cooperation:

    - I agree to maintain open communication with the school and to fully cooperate with  any measures taken to address behavioral or academic concerns.

    5. Guidelines for Addressing Disagreements:

Under any circumstances of disagreement with school teachers, school management, or other parents, I agree to:
    - Reflect on the matter adequately before taking any further action and bring forward my perspectives/complaints reasonably without affecting the three important areas: the mission of the school, interpersonal relations, and development of the school.
    - Step into the other person’s shoes and remember that two people can have different views on the same situation. I will schedule some time to sit down and talk to each other, listen to their point of view, and ask them to clarify their concerns.
    - Schedule a meeting with the Principal/Head of School and put forward my concern to him/her directly without discussing the matter with others

    6. Disagreements Involving Children:

Under any circumstances of disagreement concerning two children, I declare that I will:
    - Not intervene in the matter directly.
    - Inform the classroom/homeroom/subject teacher.
    - Let the teacher assess the situation and decide on an appropriate solution.
    - Not take the initiative to inform or warn the parents of the other child; rather,  seek help from the teachers, school management, or school counsellor to resolve the matter rationally.

    7. Disagreements Involving Children:
With my highest personal effort, I agree to attend and participate in the following:
    -
Regulate parent-teacher meetings or meetings called urgently.
    - Individual meetings with the teachers within the school premises.
    - Parent reunions, seminars, workshops, and events where there are opportunities to share and exchange experiences.

    8. Adherence to School Rules and Fees:
    - I shall adhere to the school rules and regulations and will do my best to foster a fair and amiable
    framework within the school.
    - I agree to pay the registration fee and all the tuition fees regularly within the stipulated time.

    9. Learning Support:
    - Occasionally, a family may request admission for a student whose needs exceed the capabilities of our student support services specialists. In such cases, if a student presents specific difficulties or needs, the school may offer a place on the condition that the family provides a Student Learning Coach (SLC) at their own expense.
    - If the specific needs of the student were not identified before joining the school, the initial contract between the school and the family will have been the standard contract. However, if after admission, it is determined that the student’s needs require a Student Learning Coach or other additional support of significant expense, to benefit from the education provided by the school, the school reserves the right to retrospectively amend the contract. This amendment would stipulate that the student’s continued enrolment is contingent upon the family providing the necessary SLC assistance. If specific needs are identified subsequent to enrolment and it is beyond the capacity of the school to meet those needs, then (in these rare occasions) the school reserves the right to withdraw the child’s place.
