    The Marine Research Hub Innovation and Sustainability Awards at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) are designed to recognize and honor companies and organizations that have made significant contributions in developing innovative solutions and practices that promote sustainability and address pressing environmental challenges to our marine and coastal ecosystems.
  • Award categories and criteria for the 3rd Annual MRH Innovation and Sustainability Awards at FLIBS:

  • Blue-Green Techology/Innovation

    This category recognizes products and/or services along with technological advancements/innovation (i.e., renewable energy) developed in the last three years that demonstrate significant innovation in sustainability, resource efficiency, environmental impact reduction, resource conservation, or environmental protection. Evaluation factors: Technological innovation, environmental performance, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction, propulsion technologies or alternative fuels, use of renewable materials, waste reduction/management, water conservation, recyclability, social impact, scalability, and commercial viability.
  • Sustainable Design/Architecture

    This category recognizes outstanding design projects or architectural solutions in the last three years that integrate sustainability principles and demonstrate innovative approaches to reducing environmental impact. Evaluation factors:  Energy efficiency, use of renewable materials, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, integration with the natural environment, waste reduction, and innovative design concepts.
  • Eco-Tourism, Sustainable Practices, & Conservation Projects

    This category celebrates organizations promoting sustainable boating practices, including eco-tourism initiatives, responsible wildlife viewing, sustainable fishing practices, reducing marine pollution, protecting marine ecosystems, and minimizing environmental impact. Evaluation factors: Environmental education & community engagement, conservation & ecosystem restoration initiatives, sustainable fishing practices, marine habitat preservation, pollution prevention, adherence to responsible boating guidelines, wildlife protection measures, waste management, and local economic benefits. Project implemented in the last two years.
  • Sustainable Company Project

    This category acknowledges a company/organization that has implemented sustainable practices in their day-to-day operations, promoting resource efficiency, environmental conservation, and community engagement with a specific project in the last two years.  Evaluation factors: Energy efficiency measures, renewable energy adoption, water conservation practices, waste management systems, pollution prevention measures, environmental monitoring, and community outreach. Project implemented in the last two years.
  • Eligibility Criteria

    This award is open to non-profit organizations, for-profit companies, and educational institutions who are participating exhibitors or sponsors of the 2024 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Entries should demonstrate a measurable positive impact on the marine and coastal ecosystems.
