Get help applying for free school meals

Who can get Free or Reduced-Price meals? ALL children living in a household (including children not related to you) are eligible if ANY of the following are true:

• ANYONE in your household participates in a federal assistance program, like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Medicaid
• Your household family income and size meets the federal criteria 
• Children meet the definition of homeless, a migrant, or a runaway
• Children are in a state-funded pre-kindergarten program (Head Start)

The information you provide in the application is only used to determine your child’s eligibility for the school meal programs. This information is not shared with anyone else.

Your child’s FRL enrollment is completely confidential. You can give permission for this status to be shared with your child’s principal so your child can be offered additional support at the school.  During school meals, all students use their student ID at the cafeteria register, regardless of how much they are paying for their lunch. Other students don’t know who is in the FRL program.

Applications are usually released in the middle of August.  You can:

• Apply online at https://www.myschoolapps.com/Application
• Get a paper copy at the front office of any school in the district. 
• Get a paper copy at the front desk of the district’s Central Office at  22 Valley Road. 
• Many local organizations also have paper copies to give out, like Montclair Public Library, MNDC, MCPK, and the Y.

You will select a 20-minute time slot - this will help us manage our time.  But, you are welcome to come early, and don't worry if you are running late! 

Also:

• One parent / guardian can apply for all children in the household.
• Children are NOT required to be present.  But, if you would like to bring your children, they are welcome!
• You do not need to bring any ID or information with you.
