Skillz Squad @ Hales Corners Library
What is Skillz Squad?
Skillz Squad is a volunteer group for kids and teens ages 11–18 who want to help out at the library, build real-life skills, and have fun doing it! Squad members support library programs, work on cool projects, and make a difference in the community.
Our Motto:
We help out, and have fun doing it!
Skillz Squad is where tweens and teens team up to volunteer, grow their skills, and get ready for whatever’s next—school, jobs, or life!
Meetings & Activities
Skillz Squad meets twice a month during the school year:
🧠 Squad Meeting (1st Thursday of the month):
Talk about what kinds of programs you want to see at the library—and help plan and run them!
🛠️ Skills Meeting (3rd Thursday of the month):
Do fun activities that help you build real-world skills you can use in school, jobs, and beyond.
Skills you’ll build include:
- Communication
- Teamwork & collaboration
- Time management
- Problem solving & critical thinking
- Professionalism & responsibility
- Creativity & initiative
What’s Expected of Squad Members
To stay active in Skillz Squad, members must:
✅ Attend at least 15 of the 17 scheduled meetings
✅ Let the Youth Services Librarian know at least 24 hours in advance if you’ll miss a meeting (unless it’s an emergency)
✅ Help out at one library program (any age group) between September and May
✅ Volunteer for at least 10 hours at the library outside of meetings
✅ Be respectful and work well with other squad members
✅ Respond to messages from the librarian in a timely way (email, text, or whatever method you choose)
If a member misses more than 2 meetings, they’ll get a warning. Missing 4 or more may result in being removed from the squad.
