This extra time is to provide instruction and practice opportunity for some of the more complex music, effects and fight choreography. All roles are open. Please note there are no contingencies.
  • Plot Synopsis

A heartwarming, gripping, sometimes whimsical but always moving story of a small Scots/Irish Gaelic family with a powerful secret, fleeing political persecution in 1814 America. “Tales of the Artisan” transports the viewers to a secret world of magic, wonder and intrigue. Part coming-of-age story, part action thriller and part homage to the incredible connection of family, the musical features an evolution of early American music, beginning with its roots in Scotch/Irish culture and exploring aspects of early folk. The score is full of lush blends, big dance numbers, magic effects and features a small live orchestra including some of the primary characters.

  • Audition Preparation

Details: You will need a song and a magic trick. WHAT??? Read ahead - you don't need to be a magician. We will provide easy tricks for you after audition registration and you can perform one of them, or anything of your choosing. Our auditions are going to be fun and full of opportunities to shine. We are looking for performers wanting to show their stuff - so bring it all in as you sing and act in front of and with your fellow actors. Performers are expected to prepare a one minute solo (speakers and live accompaniment will be provided) as well as a short magic trick of any kind. Don't overthink the magic trick! It can be as simple or complex as you like provided it doesn't require a pre-set. This is purely to see how well you can perform in the unusual manner required when presenting lies to an audience. Once you've registered, we will send you a list of easy tricks you can learn, or you can find one of your choice! If you can play a classic instrument - flute, single drum, mandolin, etc - you are encouraged to bring it to demonstrate. In addition, we will run directibility exercises and other elements that do not require prep work. There will be a short dance/movement range check which requires no prep. While callbacks may not be needed, we reserve the right to call back performers on Friday, October 24th. Details will be provided if required. Please wear comfortable clothing, and appropriate footwear, bring water, and expect to be there for the entire audition block. If you cannot attend auditions, and need another option, please email: talesoftheartisan@fctstage.org
