  • WISCA Asked to Address Proposed Reduction in Reimbursement for QZ Services

WISCA was recently contacted by the Wisconsin Association of Nurse Anesthetists (WIANA) regarding an issue with reimbursement for services provided by CRNAs.  They have requested feedback and support from WISCA to address this matter.

The issue, more specifically involves notice from United Healthcare that reimbursement for QZ services rendered by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will be reduced by 15 percent to 85 percent of the physician fee schedule.  This change would be effective October 1, 2025.  We are asking WISCA contacts to share their feedback on this change and the impact on your center.  Please complete a short survey for us to collect information as part of our response and work with WIANA to address this change.

  • Does your center operate in a CRNA only model?
  • If your center does not operate in a CRNA only model, are you considering that as an option within the next 2 years?
  • Does your center have an MD on site with 4+ CRNAs working in ORs and billing supervision?
  • I would be willing to talk about this with United Healthcare or other decision-makers.
