Karis Worship Seeks Original Liturgy for Lenten and Easter Seasons
Submission Deadline: September 8, 2025
Project Overview
Karis Worship (karisworship.com) is commissioning original liturgy to inspire worshipers in their Lenten and Easter journeys. Liturgy will be featured in worship services throughout the season of Lent (Ash Wednesday through Good Friday) and Easter (Easter Day through Pentecost). We envision the liturgy primarily being used by churches in their weekly congregational worship services, but also in their midweek programming and at-home reflection.
Theme & Focus
This liturgy complements our thematic focus for the seasons of Lent and Easter. In Lent, we want to center on God’s presence. The primary textual companion for this season is Psalm 51, with its profound themes of renewal, restoration, and the abiding presence of God even in our brokenness. The theme for the Easter season is Following a Risen and Revealed Jesus, with an exploration of how we “see” Jesus and know who he is. There are several stories during this season of people who see Jesus on the surface, but don’t recognize him for who he is, at least at first (examples: Mary Magdalene, disciples on road to Emmaus).
Additional focus scriptures will be provided for every service of worship. Each piece/week will include all of the following liturgical elements:
- Call to Worship
- Invocation
- Confession & Assurance of Forgiveness
- Prayers of the People
- Offertory Invitation & Prayer
- Prayer Practice (one per season)
- Responsive Scripture Reading
- Benediction (one per season, to be used weekly)
Additional information and specific features regarding the liturgy elements can be found in this document.
Worship Audience Considerations
While the liturgy should appeal intergenerationally, special consideration should be given to engaging children ages 5-12. The writing should be accessible and meaningful across age groups, serving families as they journey through Lent and Easter together.
Submission Requirements
- Format: A PDF of at least two written/published liturgies or worship services you’ve created/planned, each of which includes at least three of the elements listed above.
- Please submit a few sentences with any instructions, suggestions, or ideas for how a leader can best use the Karis Worship liturgy with children.
- Author Statement: A paragraph or two expressing why you are interested in this project.
