Since the 1990s, Michael has run popular guitar workshops and multi-day guitar camps, including his inaugural Austria Guitar Retreat in 2019. He has been a guest tutor at four Tommy Emmanuel Guitar Retreats, and at three Tuscany Guitar Camps.
In 2025, Michael presented a highly successful four- day Guitar Retreat in Queensland.
Michael encourages a supportive, fun, and non-competitive environment, with opportunities for participants to expand their jamming and performance skills.
Michael will discuss and demonstrate:
- Fingerstyle guitar techniques
- Adapting and arranging popular songs
- Ear training, memorising songs
- Playing together as a group
- Understanding chord structures and scales
- Developing improvising (jamming) skills
- Tips for performance, stagecraft and dealing with anxiety
- Developing confidence, and an effective practice routine
