WHAT DO WE OFFER YOU

Above Brighton and Hove Living Wage Salary with an OTE between £13.00 - £16.50 per hour (this includes service charge) Basic hourly wage also depends on your experience you bring to the table
All service charge is split between all team members (100% goes to the team)

1. A guest angrily accuses you of getting their order wrong, but you are convinced that it was entered correctly.*

I apologise for their experience and I tell them I am 100% sure I put their order through correctly but I'll double check with the kitchen to see if anything went wrong on their end.I apologise for their experience and I keep my composure to not escalate things, I listen without interrupting the customer and acknowledge their complaint. I offer them to fix it and make it right for them, even if I believe this was not my fault.I apologise for their experience and I have a look at the food on the table and let them know I'll will double check the ordering system. Once it's confirmed all was done correct, I'll will tell them it was all ordered correctly and there is not a lot I can do as we have not made any mistakes.

2. A guest walks in and looks around, clearly unsure of where to go or what to do.*

I make eye contact and greet them. I will stay at my station and assume they will come to me as I am clearly visible behind the counter ready to help them.I greet them with a friendly tone and a smile from a distance and will let them figure it out, I don't want to impose on them and be in their face immediately. This might make them feel uncomfortable as and they might leave.I greet them warmly and welcoming, asking if they have visited us before. I offer them a table to sit down or I offer my help to navigate through our menu and explain how to order. If they have any other questions I let them know I'm here to help them and that I'll be back in a few minutes.

3. Your guests are eating their smash burgers and you noticed their drinks are empty. You go over and ask them how they find their smash burgers and if they would like another drink. The guest has eaten half their burger but they tell you they actually do not like the taste.*

I apologise and tell them we don't take it personal as we understand we can't please everyone that comes in. I offer them to have it for free on the house as I want them to leave feeling happy.I apologise that food does not meet their expectations and tell them that maybe they can try another item on the menu next time they visit. Unfortunately I can't offer them a refund or other burger as they have already eaten half their burger and they did not tell me sooner.I apologise and thank them for their feedback, I ask them what they don't like about the burger and tell them we will make it right for them. You decide to offer them a different burger from the menu free of charge.

4. It is a busy Saturday evening and it's a full house. You and your colleague are running your socks off and you see that your colleague is not clearing table 5 as they walk past empty handed.*

I go to my manager and tell them I have some concerns about the poor work ethic of my colleague. As a manager they expect me to feed this back to them so we can all do better, they deal with performance issues and I am not trained or hired to step in the shoes of my manager.I'll run after my colleague and ask them if they did not see that table 5 needs clearing - you make them aware that new guests waiting for a table and ask if they need any help.As I am near table 5 anyway, I quickly clear table 5 and tell my colleague all that is left to do for table 5 is a quick clean. I see if there is anything else I can help with without it affecting my responsibilities too much. Being a team member is more important than making sure that I do all my tasks perfectly.

5. Your manager asks to sit down for a chat at the end of a busy shift and all you want right. now is to get home, relax and put your feet up. They noticed a deviation of the procedures as to how you were trained and per the SOP manual.*

I tell my manager that I am very tired and this might not be the best time to have a chat. I ask if the two of us can have a chat next time before shift starts as you just want to go home to relax and forget about tonight.I don't mind receiving feedback at all, as long as it is fair and I am not being singled out. I would not be happy if I am the only one who gets constructive feedback when I have seen my colleagues making SOP mistakes as well.I appreciate feedback - it helps me be become a better person and it keeps the standards high. I want people to see me as a person they can rely on in the team. I ask my manager to go over it with me again at an appropriate time, to make sure I don't make the same mistake.
