Serving on the Grand Council requires a significant investment of both time and money.
In accordance with Bylaw 7, Section 1, grand officers commit to regularly attending Grand Council meetings with no more than 10% unexcused absences. In recent years, the Grand Council has held virtual meetings on a monthly basis, although it is not uncommon for the board to meet more than once per month.
Additionally, grand officers are expected to attend in-person Fraternity events, which may require out-of-town and overnight travel, including:
- Grand Council retreats and in-person meetings
- National and regional leadership programs
- Industry conferences
- Biennial Convocation
- Chapter installations and visitations
- Other travel as necessary
In many cases, grand officers personally cover the cost of their travel expenses (such as airfare, hotel, non-event-provided meals, tolls, rental cars, ground transportation, personal car mileage, fuel, and airport parking).
