  • BLACK ARCHITECTS IN THE MAKING

    SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
Architecture schools across the nation have an enrollment of 6% Black or African American students. Once graduated, Black registered architects make up only 2.0% of the US architecture profession, with Black American women representing a dismal less than 0.5% of all the almost 121,500 regristered architects. One of the reasons for the woeful lack of representation in the profession is due to the lack of knowledge about the profession in Black communities. The Black Architects in the Making (BAM) program immerses professionals into communities where these Black students live, learn, and play to introduce them to architecture and enhance their knowledge of architecture as a career choice, equipping them with the information necessary to know how to pursue architecture as a career. The high cost of an architecture education is another impediment in the path of any aspiring architects.

This scholarship will assist students in the BAM program to offset the financial commitment required for such an education. At least 1 scholarship valued at up to $1,500 will be awarded annually. The number and value of awards may vary year-to-year based on applications and available funds.
