Mentoring Camp Participant Application Logo
  • Mentoring Camp Participant Application

“Mentoring Camp, a hands-on caravan that offers guidance and support for those beginning their nomadic journey, with priority given to first-year and low-income participants.”
  • E-mail addresses do not match. Please check you emails and try again.

  • Vehicle

  • This Caravan is primarily designed for those in smaller vehicles without built-in RV systems (generators, water, or sewer hookups aren’t our focus)—such as cars, SUVs, trucks, or cargo trailers. RVs are absolutely welcome to join us at Mentoring Camp; we just won’t be covering the use of onboard RV-specific systems.

  • Thank you for your interest, but we cannot consider your application further. This program is intended for participants using registered and insured cars, trucks, vans, and converted trailers as homes who have launched into nomadic life recently. Please reapply at a future course when your rig is registered and insured for travel. We look forward to seeing you Down the Road!

  • Thank you for your interest, but we cannot consider your application at this time.  When your option to travel is resolved, please reapply for a future Nomad Boondocking Skills course.  May your resilience and strength guide you toward a solution for the mechanical need.

Although we are unable to assist directly, we want to provide you with additional resources that may be helpful:
There are several programs and resources available for low-income individuals who need financial help with car repairs. Here are some options to explore:
    Government & State Assistance Programs
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) – Some states offer financial assistance for car repairs through TANF. Check with your local Department of Human Services.
Workforce Assistance Programs – If you need a car to get to work, some workforce development programs provide financial aid for repairs.
Local Human Services Offices – Many counties and states offer emergency assistance programs that may include car repairs.
    Nonprofits & Charities
Modest Needs – Provides short-term financial assistance for emergency expenses, including car repairs. (modestneeds.org)
Working Cars for Working Families – Helps low-income workers access affordable transportation. (workingcarsforworkingfamilies.org)
United Way 211 – Dial 211 or visit 211.org to find local organizations that provide car repair assistance.
The Salvation Army – Some local branches offer help with car repairs in emergency situations.
    Car Repair-Specific Programs
Cars for Moms – Helps single parents with car-related expenses. (carsformoms.org)
Vehicle Repair Grant Programs – Some states offer grants for car repairs, especially for low-income families and those needing transportation for work.
Local Churches & Faith-Based Organizations – Many churches have assistance funds for car repairs or connections to local mechanics willing to help.
    Other Assistance Options
Crowdfunding – Websites like GoFundMe or Modest Needs can help raise funds for car repairs.
Community Action Agencies – These agencies often help low-income individuals with emergency expenses, including car repairs.
Vocational Schools – Some technical colleges offer low-cost or free car repairs as part of student training programs.
If you’re looking for direct assistance, I’d recommend calling 211 or checking state-specific programs first, as they often provide the quickest help.

Facebook Groups who like to help: Nomads Helping Nomads, Nomads Helping Nomads Network, Rainbow Mechanized Squad (mechanically minded who guide you for self repair ideas), Nomad Center Camp, Vanaid and others.

We look forward to seeing you DOWN THE ROAD!

  • This Mentoring Camp is designed to help nomads new to the road. With that, we want to make sure you have the basic neccessities to be able to live in your rig while at the Mentoring Camp. And possibly continued travels down the road.

  • Date & Location

This class will be held in Pahrump NV, between October 25th - November 2nd.
  • Thank you for your interest, but we cannot consider your application at this time. HOWA is not able to financially support your transportation costs to reach and leave the event.   We send our best wishes and hope you can attend a future session when your situation improves.

  • Personal Self Sufficiency

  • Thank you so much for your interest in attending to the HOWA Mentoring Camp. We were honored to receive interest from so many inspiring individuals navigating their early nomadic journeys.  Since HOWA is unable to provide Physical or Mental Health assistance at the event we send our regrets.

There are resources available for mental health support.  Here are a few options:

-Dial 988 from your phone: speak to the 24hr call center about your needs and inquire about possible options. They have a vast array of resources, this is not just a suicide prevention hotline.

-TMSA provides not one, but two Nomad Communities: The Virtual Caravans for all nomads and The Nomad Chapter for the subset of Nomads who share mental health challenges. There is an overlap in those two communities so it is not unusual for Nomads to participate in both communities. The big difference is that the Virtual Caravans are not confidential and are open to all nomads while the Nomad Chapter is only open to those who identify as having any mental health challenge or who are autistic and its community is confidential.    www.teammoodsupport.org/nomad/

  • Thank you for your interest in the Mentoring Camp.  HOWA is unable to provide you financial assistance to sustain nomadic living. Please reapply for a future course when your financial standing is improved. As always, we wish you safe and enjoyable journey until we meet again.

  • Expectations

Your behavior is expected to be in line with our Mission/Vision/Values:
  • Mission
Homes on Wheels Alliance supports nomads in need through training and resources while building an empowering and compassionate community.

    Vision
Homes on Wheels Alliance envisions a future where nomads have the resources, knowledge, and community to thrive.

    Values
Compassion – We pursue our mission utilizing kindness, empathy, and respect. Everyone is deserving of compassion, and it costs nothing to provide.

Community – We serve as a catalyst in bringing the nomad community together in support of one another and our collective goals.

Diversity – We celebrate, honor, and respect all of humanity and recognize we have more commonalities than differences. We believe the nomad community should welcome everyone from any background who shares our values.

Partnership – We recognize that we can only achieve our vision by engaging with individual, organizational, and public partners. Success is not success unless we achieve it together and share in its rewards.

Conservation – We understand that contemporary nomadism is a low carbon minimalist lifestyle that contributes less to climate change in comparison to traditional living styles. Adhering to Leave No Trace principles we leave the land better than we found it.
