• Sacramental Preparation Overview

    The following sections contain important information about the Sacramental Preparation process at St. Patrick Parish. Please read each section carefully. Some sections will require you to acknowledge that you have read and understand the information provided. After reviewing the Sacramental Preparation information, you will be asked to complete the registration form with information about your family and the child or teen being registered.

  • Who is Eligible to Register for This Sacramental Preparation Program 

    This registration form is for children who are eligible to prepare for and receive the sacraments of Confirmation or First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion during the 2026-2027 academic year. For Confirmation, children must be in 8th grade or around 14 years old, have been baptized in the Catholic Church, and have already received First Holy Communion. For First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, children must be in 2nd grade or around 8 years old and have received Catholic Baptism. In addition, all children registering for either sacrament must have completed two consecutive years of religious education in a parish faith formation program (formerly commonly called CCD), a Catholic school, or a homeschool religious education program. If your child does not meet these requirements, do not complete this form. Instead, contact Cathy Taylor, DRE, for further guidance. Contact information can be found in the parish bulletin, which is available at Mass.

  • Registration Deadline

    December 31, 2026. The completed registration form and all required supporting documents must be received by this date. Children may not begin sacramental preparation classes until all registration requirements have been completed.

  • The Diocese of St. Augustine establishes the following requirements for the celebration of the sacraments of Confirmation, First Reconciliation, and First Eucharist for school-aged children.

  • Remote Preparation (ongoing catechesis)

    Remote preparation refers to the religious education children receive regularly through parish faith formation classes, a Catholic school, or a homeschool religious education program. A minimum of two consecutive years of remote preparation is expected before a child receives a sacrament.

  • Immediate Preparation for the Sacraments (Winter and Spring of 2027)

    In addition to remote preparation through the Faith Formation program, Catholic school, or homeschool religious education program, children preparing for the sacraments participate in immediate preparation focused specifically on the sacrament they are preparing to receive. Immediate preparation includes sacramental catechesis, parent involvement, classroom instruction, and retreat time. Preparation for First Reconciliation will take place in January 2027, Confirmation in February–March 2027, and First Holy Communion in April 2027. The specific expectations for attendance, retreats, sacramental celebrations, and required documents are outlined in the Commitment section of this form.

  • Sacramental Preparation Commitments

    By registering a child or teen for Sacramental Preparation, families are committing to the full preparation process required for the sacrament. This includes attendance at the required series of Tuesday evening preparation classes, participation in the retreat associated with each sacrament, and attendance at the celebration of the sacrament. First Reconciliation is celebrated during the First Reconciliation retreat; First Holy Communion and Confirmation are celebrated at Mass. Families are also responsible for submitting all required documents and forms by the stated deadlines. Specific dates and times will be provided on the Religious Education calendar sent after registration.

  • Attendance

    Your child's attendance at all sacramental preparation classes and retreats is required. The Diocese considers more than 2 hours of absence during the sacramental preparation year to be excessive. If your child will miss a class or retreat, please notify the Director of Religious Education as soon as possible to receive instructions for making up the missed work. Sacramental preparation should take priority over sports and leisure activities, and families should plan accordingly around the required class and retreat dates. At least one parent or guardian is expected to attend the First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion retreats with the child, and the whole family is invited to participate. If the Confirmation Retreat is missed, the Diocese requires the retreat to be made up at another parish. Because our retreat is scheduled late in the diocesan Confirmation season, finding another parish retreat afterward may be very difficult.

  • Parental Involvement

    Parental involvement in a young person's faith life is a vital responsibility accepted at the time of Baptism. The sacramental rites and diocesan guidelines assume active participation by parents in the preparation for and celebration of the sacraments. Preparation should begin now, if it has not already, in the home—do not wait for classes to begin before teaching your children about the sacraments they will receive. Parents are, by word and example, the first and most important teachers of the faith to their children. As the domestic church, the family models and teaches the values of living faith through regular participation in Sunday Mass, ongoing faith formation, prayer and thanksgiving, the witness of a holy life, and self-giving service to others.   • Mass Attendance

    Regular attendance at Sunday Mass is especially important as parents prepare their child to receive the sacraments. Parents are the primary educators and role models in their child’s faith journey, and worshiping together as a family at Mass helps to nurture and strengthen that faith. The Mass is the source and summit of Catholic life, where children encounter Christ through the Word and Eucharist. By making Mass attendance a priority, parents demonstrate the value of active participation in the Church community and support their child in growing closer to God during this sacred preparation time.  If regular Mass attendance has not yet been part of your family’s life, this is the time to begin a lasting commitment to Sunday Mass as a foundation for your child’s faith—not only during sacramental preparation, but for the years to come. In the life of the Church, regular Mass attendance means attending Mass every Sunday and on holy days of obligation as an essential part of living the Catholic faith.

  • Non-Parishioners and St. Patrick School Families Who Belong to Another Parish

    Families who belong to another parish should ordinarily prepare for and receive the sacraments through their home parish. This includes children who attend St. Patrick Catholic School but whose family belongs to another parish; attendance at St. Patrick Catholic School does not automatically mean that a child will receive the sacraments at St. Patrick Parish. If your family would like your child to prepare for and/or receive the sacraments at St. Patrick instead, you must first obtain permission from the pastor of your home parish. Please provide a copy of that permission to the St. Patrick Director of Religious Education before completing this registration form.

  • Families Who Attend the Traditional Latin Mass at Historic St. Joseph

    Families who attend the Traditional Latin Mass at Historic St. Joseph Catholic Church should contact St. Joseph Parish before completing this registration form. Although Fr. Liguori celebrates the Traditional Latin Mass there, sacraments celebrated at Historic St. Joseph are recorded at St. Joseph Parish. TLM families preparing through St. Patrick are expected to follow the same class, retreat, document, and preparation requirements as all other families. Families preparing for First Holy Communion are also responsible for coordinating directly with St. Joseph Parish regarding the First Holy Communion date and any documents needed to record the sacrament. A copy of the child's baptismal certificate must also be provided to the DRE of St. Patrick.

St. Joseph Parish is responsible for the sacramental record and must be aware of and approve the celebration of First Holy Communion at Historic St. Joseph. You are also responsible for providing St. Joseph Parish with any documents or information they require in order to record the sacrament. Please upload a copy of a letter, email or other written confirmation from St. Joseph Parish showing that you are in communication with them regarding your child's First Holy Communion.

That parish is responsible for the celebration and sacramental record and should be aware that your child is completing sacramental preparation at St. Patrick.     Please review your registration carefully before submitting the form and make sure all required fields and document uploads are complete. There is no fee for Sacramental Preparation. After your registration has been received and processed, you should receive an email confirmation from Cathy Taylor, DRE, along with the Religious Education calendar and sacramental information sheet(s) for your child. Please allow up to two weeks for processing. If you have not received an email from the DRE within two weeks of submitting this form, please contact Cathy Taylor to confirm that your registration was received. If you have additional children to register, please submit this form and then return to complete a separate registration for each child. God bless.
