Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Head of Replay / Replay Operator to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be 1- Operating various replay systems for live broadcasts, 2- responsible for building packages and other elements for live events, and 3- training and mentoring operators on all aspects of live event replay operations, ensuring seamless transmission and high-quality output for live events. You will work with state-of-the-art broadcast equipment and software, in real-time to ensure every broadcast goes smoothly.
General Duties/Responsibilities:
- Serve as the head Replay Operator of replay systems: Utilizing Replay systems to record, cue, and play back live event footage in real-time or slow motion. Build packages and elements as directed by show producers
- Highlighting key moments: Identifying and isolating crucial plays, noteworthy events, and other important aspects of the game for immediate replay
- Train and mentor new operators on replay systems and other functions related to game and event graphics operations
- Collaborating with production teams: Working closely with directors, producers, and other broadcast personnel to understand the narrative of the game and create replays that contribute to the storytelling.
- Ensuring accuracy and quality: Work with the producer to be sure the correct shots are being captured and replayed on air while ensuring smooth transitions and seamless integration into the live broadcast.
- Troubleshooting: Possessing the ability to address and resolve any technical issues that may arise with the replay systems or related equipment during live events.
- Ongoing training: Participating in relevant training and administrative calls to stay up to date on system updates and software development related to replay operations and broadcast procedures.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Lead Replay operator in a live control room or remote event environment, preferably with live sports or other unscripted programming, is required. Minimum of 5+ years practical TV Production or related experience at a broadcast market level, digital/streaming platform or comparable professional broadcast level is required.
- A strong understanding of broadcast technology, video editing, and live sports production is essential. A demonstrated ability to work proactively, efficiently, even in a high-pressure, live-production environment is required.
- Expertise with specific replay systems such as EVS, DreamCatcher, or similar broadcast platforms is required.
- The ability to make quick and accurate decisions under pressure, particularly during crucial plays, is vital.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to effectively work with the production team are essential.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as live events often take place outside of traditional business hours.
- Proficiency with Google applications, including Google Sheets, Docs, Slides and Forms.
Preferred Skills:
- A deep understanding of various professional and collegiate sports, including storylines, key players, games, strategies, and rules, is a valuable asset.
- Familiarity with control room environments and technical operations for sports, concerts, or live shows.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for live broadcast quality.
Salary Range:
$80K and up
