The American Heart Association, with support from Novant Health, is partnering with and funding organizations up to $10,000 to implement ideas to promote heart health in the Cape Fear, Charlotte, and Triad regions. Organizations can include community-based organizations, churches, senior centers, community health centers, housing authorities, HBCUs, community colleges, universities, and city and county government.
Potential projects may include:
- Implement community or clinical-based blood pressure screening, education, and referral program
- Increase capacity to provide fresh or frozen produce at a food pantry/bank (e.g. purchase of refrigerator, sink, shelving, etc.)
- Establish a new food distribution site (e.g. pop-up market, mini-pantry, etc.)
- Launch EBT (SNAP & WIC) payment system at a Farmers Market, mobile market, or other healthy food outlet (except corner stores)
- Address maternal health and cardiovascular disease risk among pregnant women
- Other strategies to improve the health of your communities
Examples of eligible expenses include:
- Blood pressure devices and educational materials
- Refrigeration or shelving supplies to support a food distribution site
- Support for EBT payment system at a Farmers Market or mobile markets
Please note: The grant program does not fund the following:
- Staff time
- Micro-, mini-, sub- or re-granting programs
- Retroactive expenses (pre-dating funding award)
- Events such as galas, runs, or other fundraising activities
- Food
