Course Details
Location
This course is focused on supporting employment opportunities in the Wiltshire area. Face-to-face (F2F) sessions will be held in Wiltshire Corsham Court, with virtual sessions forming the majority of the schedule.
Funding
The BCS Certification in Agile and Wargaming Strategy is fully funded by the Department for Education (DfE), meaning there is no cost to you. Please note that only one fully funded place per 12 months can be allocated to an individual through this initiative.
Commitment and Requirements
• You can not have completed another DFE Funded course within the last 12 months
• You must live in a Wiltshire Post Code
• You must have proof of right to work in the UK
• You must be either a Service Leaver in the last 12 months of Service or a Veteran that is actively seeking new employment
Participants must commit to the schedule below and be willing to consider employment opportunities in the Wilsthire Post Code area. For those already employed in the Wiltshire region, a letter or email from your line manager is required, confirming how the course will benefit you, your business, or your unit. This might include taking on additional responsibilities, applying skills to the workplace, or driving innovation within your team.
Course
During our Level 3 equivalent, four-week module course in Agile and Wargaming Strategy you’ll be introduced to the foundations, design, and evaluation of Serious Games Simulation as a method for strategic decision-making and explore key areas including game analysis, facilitation, turn mechanics, and After-Action Reviews, with a focus on AI tools for enhanced insight. You’ll also be introduced to key Agile principles, values, and frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban, focusing on iterative development, continuous feedback, and adaptive planning.
The Serious Games Module introduces the principles and practices of strategic decision-making. It covers core concepts, formats (e.g., matrix, tabletop, computer-based), and links to Red Teaming.
You’ll explore key areas including game analysis, facilitation, turn mechanics, and After-Action Reviews, with a focus on AI tools for enhanced insight.
You’ll also explore modelling using experimental design and AI to simulate decisions, simulation for stress-testing resilience, and evaluation through prototype testing and KPI analysis. Your learning is supported by expert talks, workshops, and group projects, blending theory with hands-on experience.
Week one: Launch Week
During Launch Week, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with your fellow students and engage with your course lecturer. You’ll take part in a live teaching session, finalise the setup of any online learning tools, and attend a dedicated Wellbeing, Employability and Careers session.
Launch Week is designed to lay the foundations for a successful learning experience by helping you feel confident, informed, and prepared. It also provides time to access pre-reading materials, complete any outstanding enrolment tasks, and review the learner pack provided.
Week two: Agile Module
The Agile Project Management module provides a practical and theoretical foundation in managing projects using Agile methodologies. You’ll be introduced to key Agile principles, values, and framework such as Scrum and Kanban, focusing on iterative development, continuous feedback, and adaptive planning.
You’ll explore the roles within Agile teams, including Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Development Team, and how they collaborate to deliver value. The module emphasises user stories, backlog management, sprint planning, and review processes.
Week three: Study week
Study Week offers the opportunity to review past content, prepare for upcoming topics, and personalise your learning experience. Support is available through 1-to-1 sessions with lecturers and the Curriculum Administrator, as well as a tech drop-in for technical help.
Activities include a CV and Industry Day workshop, hands-on tasks with Figma, mock exams, and assigned reading to reinforce learning.
