    Who is eligible to participate in Shop Small Stafford/Small Business Saturday?

    • Located in the 50 United States or U.S. Territories (Must be in Stafford for Shop Small Stafford Participation)
    • Franchises: Franchise brands with up to 250 total stores and/or up to 25 corporate-owned stores are included. Franchise brands that exceed these criteria are excluded.
      Meaning: No more than 250 total stores overall, no more than 25 corporate-owned stores.
    • In good standing
    • Online: Online merchants are eligible. These merchants can appear in the AmEx Online Directory section of the Shop Small Map and participate in the Shop Small Market (if approved). These merchants can list their website on the digital passport.
    • Home-based Businesses: These merchants can appear in the AmEx Online Directory section of the Shop Small Map and participate in the Shop Small Market (if approved). These merchants can list their website on the digital passport.

    Excluded Industries: Government agencies, public administration, gas stations and businesses located on the same premises as a gas station, travel agencies, charities, non-profits, peer-to-peer payments, crowdfunding, trade associations, shopping property management companies, direct sellers (MLMs), and political organizations are not eligible to participate.

    Businesses that participate in the Shop Small Campaign will be asked to complete post-event reporting.

    Small Business Saturday is an annual event, held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (November 29th this year), that encourages people to support local, independently owned businesses. It's a nationwide initiative that promotes shopping at small businesses and recognizes their contributions to local communities. This form is to opt in for participating in the Shop Stafford campaign.

  • Small Business Saturday Vendor Village

    We recognize it is hard to participate if you don't have a physical location. We have partnered with Long Family Markets to host a Shop Small Market at the 610 VDOT Commuter Lot. Long Family Markets will be facilitating registration and operations for this market. Those that wish to participate will receive follow-up communications when registration for the Shop Small Market opens. Please note that businesses without a commercial location will be prioritized for acceptance to the Shop Small Market.

  • Marketing & Digital Passport

    The Stafford County Department of Economic Development is hosting a passport for shoppers to "check in" to participating businesses to be entered to win a prize. The following information will be used to build your business profile on the passport.

  • The Stafford Economic Development Authority (EDA) has agreed to sponsor three grand prizes for shoppers who utilize the passport and check-in to a participating business. One check in = one entry. Shoppers will have the chance to win a $1000 gift certificate or one of two $500 gift certificates to a business of their choice that was listed on the digital passport. Businesses on the digital passport must be able to issue a gift certificate. If your business is unable to issue a gift certificate, the winner must choose a different business. Business owners and employees of participating businesses are not eligible to win prizes. This contest is intended to encourage community engagement.
