A 265-unit development is proposed for 472 South Main in Downtown Harrisonburg.
To allow this housing, the developer asks for rezoning from R-3 to B1-C. The property’s current zoning allows only single family homes, duplexes, and townhouses. B1-C, the zoning designation for most of downtown, allows apartments, mixed use development.
We, the undersigned, ask Harrisonburg City Council to approve this request to
- Build more housing in a city where housing prices have gone up dramatically
- Keep Future Growth aligned with the Harrisonburg Downtown 2040 Plan
- Promote more foot traffic for downtown businesses
- Create a more walkable and bikeable downtown
Changing the zoning here sends a clear message that Harrisonburg is for everyone.
We want more housing to make the city affordable, and we want a stronger downtown for all our residents. City Council Public Hearing is Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 7pm.
