  • Subcommittee Interest

    Below is a short description of each of our subcommittees. If accepted, you will be assigned to ONE subcommittee. We will do our best to assign you to the subcommittee of your choice, but we may be limited due to capacity or other constraints:
  • Comms/Social Media

    • Create copy for all major campaigns that go beyond just social media
      Determine and implement press strategy, handle press inquiries, and do media training
    • Write and make all public statements on behalf of the organization, including speeches, interviews, major social media posts, etc. 
    • Manage press / reporter database and actively make new connections
    • Implement group branding
    • Create, review, and release emails to signees 
    • Determine the appropriate role for the organization’s social media to play, in line with our theory of change 
    • Manage the day to day of all social media including posting, reposting, collabs, Linktree, etc. ensuring a consistent flow of content
    • Conceptualize and implement social media only campaigns (e.g. the historic role of labor in international human rights movements, etc.)
    • Manage communications that come through social media accounts 
    • Coordinate with other subcommittees to run social media for their events / actions, including creating copy, graphic design, etc. 
    • Create connections across social media with individuals and/or groups that could help facilitate organizational goals 

    Events (LA or NY)

    • Conceptualize and implement local and and hybrid events
    • Coordinate with individuals / organizations outside of committee and the organization to implement event ideas, event partnerships, or support their events, consistent with our theory of change 
    • Ensure a consistent flow of events both internally (for community building) and outside of the organization (as it relates to theory of change)
    • Build network of event spaces, vendors, etc. 
    • Keep tight control of all event budgeting 

    Storybanking

    • Create database of employers, people, etc. who are friendly and unfriendly and a system for connecting jobseekers with friendly employment opportunities 
    • Identify relevant stories of repression and movement work in our industry to amplify on our channels / as part of any related ongoing projects, in coordination with the Communications and Press subcommittee 
    • Coordinate with Legal subcommittee on any potential legal action 
    • Coordinate with Social Media subcommittee to draw connections between storybanking and SM’s archives of industry discrimination / blacklisting

    BDS

    • Lead organization’s BDS efforts
    • Coordinate and engage with PACBI to support their BDS campaigns 
    • Conceptualize and implement other industry-based BDS-type campaigns as appropriate
    • Research and develop divestment strategy for industry unions, including understanding of current investments, success from other divestment campaigns, alternative investment options, steps to pursue divestment, and connect with other orgs for support

    Actions/Liasing

    • Conceptualize and implement direct actions led by our organization in line with our theory of change 
    • Create connections and serve as primary point of contact with aligned organizations we want to be in community with (“sister organizations”) 
    • Attend direct actions hosted by sister organizations as representation for our organization and co-host direct actions with sister organizations
    • Amplify direct actions by sister organizations including internally within the organization to encourage attendance
    • Attend trainings, events, other activities of sister organizations or aligned training organizations and inform all organization members of opportunities - lead internal training based on trainings attended 
    • Receive endorsement requests and submit to Leadership Committee for vote

    Member and Administrative Support

    • Create and implement new member intake processes
    • Manage shared calendar, maintain shared files, create zoom link for all meetings
    • Manage shared working projects document
    • Manage organization’s email and respond to inquiries, coordinate with Communications and Press subcommittee as needed for responses 
    • Manage organization budget and seek out and apply for funding opportunities
    • Create and maintain website
    • Serve as backstop “HR” for any members whose concerns cannot be addressed by their subcommittee chairs and implement general feedback process to check in with members on how to strengthen the organization
    • Keep notes from all Leadership Committee meetings and send out to Leadership Committee members after meetings 
    • Collect updates from subcommittees and Leadership Committee and issue regular organization newsletter to all members
    • Manage and moderate general Signal thread

    Cultural Impact Committee

    • Research successful culture change campaigns and implement organization-wide best practices to achieve the organization's goals
      Coordinate with other Subcommittee Chairs to ensure the organization's projects and initiatives align with long-term goals, our theory of change, and the organization's mission
      Lead conversations on updating the organization's Theory of Change and Mission Statements to reflect changing realities as appropriate
      Develop measures and track progress toward the organization's goals
      Ensure cohesion across the organization by facilitating communication between subcommittees.
      Connect with and manage outreach to aligned culture workers to support and amplify their work, and collaborate on long-term initiatives as appropriate
      Identify and coordinate funding opportunities for the organization as appropriate (Temporary)
