  • Activity Descriptions:

    JUNIOR ACTIVITIES (Ages 4/5-7)

Flub / Slime - Chemical Engineering: Put on your lab coats and get ready to get your hands dirty! During this party, children will make and investigate Flub, which is neither a liquid nor a solid. While being stuck hands deep in glue, the party guests will learn about atoms, molecules and polymers to achieve perfect elasticity. An absolute highlight!

Diving For Treasure - Pirate theme from Marine Engineering: Ahoi to all pirates! Follow the treasure map to the buried treasure! The party guests will discover that they must be like Jacques Cousteau and create a diver that can dive down deep into the oceans. Students will build a Cartesian diver and use their diver to bring up the buried treasure for every pirate to share. Our young marine engineers will explore the concept of buoyancy and understand that marine engineers design and improve technology that helps us to explore the open sea. Fun guaranteed!

Sailing the Skies – Aerospace Engineering: A gentle breeze will take your party guests’ imagination on a journey in the Sailing the Skies activity. Children will learn about buoyancy, air vent, atoms, burner, lift and construct a hot-air balloon using a helium-filled balloon and other everyday items. They will discover how hot-air balloons rise and fall by gas and pressurized air and understand why hot air rises. They will then use different weights as their passengers and work to lift them into the air. FUN for all guaranteed! :-)

Stomp Rockets - Aerospace Engineering: To infinity and beyond! Many engineers design and build rockets that allow us to explore the vast outer space. How do we propel our rocket? How do we stabilize its trajectory? How do we achieve maximal efficiency through speed? We’ll answer all those questions while building our own rocket AND launcher to be ready for lift-off at any time. Great activity for 5-7 year olds.

Robo Party with Sphero - Meet our rolling robot Sphero and find out how to use the Drive function to control it! All party guests will have the opportunity to build a fun costume for Sphero, brainstorm ideas together for an obstacle course, design it, build it, and finally use their robotics skills to navigate Sphero through it! This activity is perfect for all kids who want to learn about robotics in a fun way :)

Crazy Catapults - Mechanical Engineering: Are you armed to defend your medieval kingdom? At this party, you'll invent your own kingdom and crest, and discover how to use potential and kinetic energy to build a catapult to take home! And of course, your design and determination will be put to the test as your catapult becomes your castle's main line of defense ;-)

    APPRENTICE ACTIVITIES (Ages 8-14)

SumoBots  - LEGO® Robotics with Mindstorms: In this activity, your party guests will dive into the artistic tradition of Sumo wrestling – using robots! They will be challenged to build a robot that is able to push its opponent out of the arena or flip it over using motors, sensors and the EV3 robotics kits. Pure fun and excitement for engineers and spectators

Bottle Rockets – Aerospace Engineering: Buckle up, because these rockets reach incredible heights! Your party guests will learn how simple air pressure can jettison a rocket more than 30 meters in the air. They will investigate different components of their bottle rocket and the functionality of their real-world counterparts and will get the chance to build a large model rocket that is capable of launching using pressurized water and air.

Air-powered Custom Dragster – Mechanical Engineering: Dragsters are precision built machines that can travel at speeds greater than 320 km per hour. During this activity, party guests will experience the challenge of building an air-powered vehicle that is incredibly aerodynamic. They will create a car shaped body which they will then redesign in an attempt to improve its efficiency and achieve maximum speed! They will explore acceleration, aerodynamics, durability and velocity. All this - while having FUN! :-)

Sun Painting – Chemical Engineering: Let your creativity shine through! Sun Painting will allow your party guests to unleash their creative side while learning about simple photochemical processing and the light spectrum. Through guided trial-and-error, party guests will learn which visible colors are most effective at developing and exposing photographic prints. Sun printing, or cyanotype, will give children the opportunity to closely examine an object in detail, as the object being printed leaves a direct contact silhouette on the specially-formulated sun print paper.

Coasters 101 - Mechanical Engineering: While building wild loops and daring curves, the party guests will have a chance to explore how friction, kinetic energy, and potential energy can be both a benefit and a drawback and look into the physics properties of velocity, acceleration, and gravity related to roller coasters. Buckle up and get ready for loads of fun!

Playful Polymers (SLIME) – Chemical Engineering: Put on your lab coats and safety goggles! During this birthday party, children will be able to manipulate the material properties of glue. By combining glue with different solutions, children will explore processes needed to create new materials. While being stuck hands deep in our mixtures, the party guests will earn about atoms, molecules and polymers to achieve maximum sliminess

"Blimp Blitz" – Aerospace Engineering: How is it possible to get around the world in 80 days – using a blimp? We will answer those questions while your guests will explore and apply the principles of buoyancy to create a neutrally buoyant blimp that uses the power of air currents to go on a journey across the room.
