  • Registrations for Te Waka Tapu o Takitimu Romiromi Rongoā Wānanga Series

    2025/2026
  • Wānanga One: Fri 5th - Sun 7th September 2025

Nau mai ki te Wananga One, the first of the wānanga series with a criteria that is for whānau Māori who whakapapa to the waka tapu o Takitimu. To avoid disappointment, please ensure all fields of the registration form are completed. The Rongoā and Romiromi Wānanga series will take place in the Te Whanganui-a-Orotū region. Building on the foundations of Years 1 and 2, Year 3 will focus on advanced learning in tangihanga tikanga and kawa for karanga and whaikōrero tauira. This will include essential practices in Romiromi with relevant takutaku, karakia, tauparapara, and natural approaches to dietary and health supplements for pain and healing chronic diseases naturally.
  • Dr. Charlotte Mildon will showcase traditional Māori healing practices, specifically romiromi, and share her extensive experience integrating Western mental health approaches with rongoā philosophies, rituals, and practices. Building on Year 2, there will be a continued focus on exploring the many aspects of Romiromi, including ko miri, taa miri, mirmiri, haemata, ngangara, as well as the concept of generational kaitiaki within the body, and traditional Māori concepts of illness such as mate Māori, mate makutu, mate wairangi, and mate porangi, offering an alternative perspective to Western psychiatric mental health diagnoses.

In response to the requests of the tauira, Dr. Mildon will also present her Master's research, which incorporates the pūrākau that the late Dr Turuki Arikirangi Rangimarie Rose Pere shared about the Māoli and Māori originally hailing from Lemuria, the motherland of the Mu civilization, also known as the ancient civilization of Atlantis.

  • Right now, we are in the season of Takurua, the ancient New Year, marked by the rising of the sacred star Sirius, the dog star. As this celestial light graces our skies, may it also illuminate your path, guiding your dreams into reality. Let us step together into the future, transforming our lives through the wisdom of wairua and the lessons of our ancestors.
