  • WHAT TO WEAR

Neutrals and earth tones work best. That doesn't mean only black, white and grey though.
Every color has a neutral version: brown, forest green, mustard, navy blue, maroon Avoid bright tones. Muted colors are more timeless and don't clash with nature/studio
-Coordinate with each other but not "matchy matchy" (ie. don't both wear blue jeans and white shirt) Consider as an alternate to blue jeans for him; neutral toned jeans/pants.

    • Patterns are great so long as you're not clashing with each o t h e r. If she's wearing a floral dress, he probably shouldn't wear a plaid shirt.
    • Skirts/dresses/bottoms that are flowy/comfy vs. too fitted/stiff are flattering, great for showing movement, and allow you to sit/move/pose more freely
    • Consider bringing accessories to play with that give us options like hats, scarves, sweaters, jackets or a blanket to sit on or wrap yourselves up in.
    • Think about your feet. Wear footwear that suits the setting
    • If in-studio and going shoe-less, bring neutral socks if you're not going barefoot.

  • Time Frame

The session is around 1 hour depending on how many people and different groupings we are doing. But I try to move on to each "scene" quickly.

    Thirst

    • Bring along water bottles for you and the kids—you’d be surprised how thirsty you can get from all that smiling and laughing in front of the camera 😉.

And on a serious note, a little “session fuel” (aka bribery) for the kiddos can go a long way, especially for younger ones. The second half of the shoot is often the trickiest for keeping their attention, so a small treat or favorite snack can work wonders.

    Let's Keep Things Fun

    • Please avoid threatening discipline during your session—it often dampens the mood. My goal is to keep things lighthearted and relaxed, so let the kids be themselves! If they get a little wild or have the occasional outburst, that’s totally fine—I'm a mom of four, so I’m no stranger to chaos. Just arrive with a smile and be ready to enjoy the experience.

Tips & Tricks To Set The Mood

    • Get ready to truly engage and connect with your little ones. We’ll start with a few classic, more posed shots, but the magic often happens in those candid moments—when you’re laughing together, sharing a glance, or simply enjoying each other’s company. Those are the images that stay in our hearts for years to come.

To spark those genuine smiles and giggles, we might try tickling, big bear hugs, high fives, singing their favorite songs, dancing, jumping, playing with blankets, letting the kids run underneath them, or wrapping them up for a cozy squeeze—plus plenty of other playful ideas.

Remember—the more joy and playful energy you bring, the more magical your portraits will be. My job is to capture those real connections and unforgettable moments, so come ready to laugh, be silly, and enjoy yourselves. Think of it as your chance to have the best experience ever!

And if Dad needs to down a beer when he arrives to shake off the nerves… no judgment here! Haha!
