NLG Legal Observer Request - California Central Coast
Covering San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. Fill out the information below to request NLG-CCC Legal Observers for an event (e.g. rally or march) or for ongoing rapid support on an emergent as-needed basis (e.g. ICE raid). Information is encrypted. Due to the high volume of requests for legal observers, we ask that you submit requests with as much notice as possible. For planned events, this is at least 72 hours in advance. Please only fill this out if you are an organizer. ALL OF THE INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE WILL REMAIN CONFIDENTIAL. Once we receive your request, we will send it to our Legal Observer team. Please note that our team is entirely volunteer-based and we must have two or more LOs present, so we may or may not be able to fulfill your request. We prioritize actions that align with NLG's values and have higher risks of law enforcement interactions. If you provide contact information, we will confirm whether Legal Observers will support or not. Email ccc@nlg.org if you have any questions. The role of NLG Legal Observers is to observe and document law enforcement activity. Legal Observers do not participate in the action or liaise with the police, and they wear bright green hats to distinguish their role. Legal Observers take direction from the NLG-CCC Legal Observer coordinator. You will not receive a report from our Legal Observers or copies of their notes/photographs.
