  • The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) was established on May 10, 1930 and is currently comprised of nine international Greek letter sororities and fraternities (D9): Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. NPHC promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions.

    A local NPHC was chartered in Columbia, SC on June 8, 1960. The member organizations have a strong focus on community service and uplift.

    For that reason, we awarding college scholarships to high school seniors in Richland, Lexington, Fairfield or Newberry County School Districts and collegiate scholarships to D9 collegiate members from Allen University, Benedict College, Columbia College, Morris College, Newberry College, University of South Carolina (Columbia, SC), or Voorhees University.

  • 2026 NPHC at Columbia SC - Scholarship Application for High School Senior

  • Below are the scholarship criteria:

    • Applicant must be a high school senior planning to enter a four-year college/university in the fall of 2025 and possess qualities of leadership, scholarship, dependability and service.
    • Applicant must be attending a public high school in Richland County, Lexington County, Fairfield County, or Newberry County.
    • Applicant must have a cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
    • Applicant must upload a completed application and an official transcript to the NPHC at Columbia, SC application form.
    • Applicant must upload a School Letter of Recommendation from a guidance counselor/director or one of your present/former high school teachers. Recommendation letter should include: length of time working with student, insight to student’s character, scholastic achievement, testament to student’s community service involvement, etc. Recommendation letter must be signed and submitted on official school letterhead. NOTE: All recommendation letters must be included with your scholarship application.
    • Applicant must upload a Community Letter of Recommendation from a person in the community that can verify a minimum of 3 months continuous community service in the current school year (i.e. your pastor, Sunday school teacher, former/present employer or mentor). Recommendation letter must be signed and submitted on letterhead. Recommendation letter should include: length of time working with student, insight to student’s character, testament to student’s community service involvement, etc. NOTE: All recommendation letters must be included with your scholarship application.
    • All requested items must be included in order for the applicant’s scholarship packet to be considered complete. This scholarship application must be submitted to the NPHC at Columbia, SC no later than 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2026. Applications that are incomplete and/or not submitted by the deadline will not be eligible for consideration.

  • 2025 NPHC at Columbia SC - Scholarship Application for D9 Collegiate Member

  • Below are the scholarship criteria: 

    • Applicant must be a college student and member of an NPHC-member organization attending a four-year college/university in the Spring of 2026 and possess qualities of leadership, scholarship, dependability and service. Eligible colleges/universities include Allen University, Benedict College, Columbia College, Morris College, Newberry College, University of South Carolina (Columbia, SC), and Voorhees University.
    • Applicant must have a cumulative college undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
    • Applicant must upload a completed application and an official transcript via the NPHC at Columbia, SC application form.
    • Applicant must upload one letter of recommendation from a person in the community that can verify a minimum of 3 months continuous community service in the current school year above and beyond service initiatives implemented by the undergraduate chapter of membership (i.e. non-profit organization volunteer coordinator, etc.). Recommendation letters should include: length of time working with student, insight to student’s character, testament to student’s community service involvement, etc. Recommendation letters must be signed and submitted on official letterhead. NOTE: All recommendation letters must be included with your scholarship application.
    • Applicant must upload one letter of recommendation from the chapter’s Graduate Advisor that provides detailed information on the applicant’s character, leadership skills, and involvement in the applicant’s respective organization. Recommendation letters must be signed and submitted on official letterhead. NOTE: All recommendation letters must be included with your scholarship application.
    • All requested items must be included in order for the applicant’s scholarship packet to be considered complete. This scholarship application must be submitted to the NPHC at Columbia, SC no later than 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2026. Applications that are incomplete and/or not submitted by the deadline will not be eligible for consideration.

  • Scholarship awards will be announced via email by the beginning of May 2026.

    Scholarship recipients are expected to attend the NPHC Scholarship Recognition Program, which will be held in mid-to-end May 2026. Program details will be included in the scholarship award email announcement. 

    Scholarship awards checks are made payable to the student and are dispersed upon submission of proof of college enrollment by the student and/or official (sealed) transcripts.
