  • On April 1, 2025, we began implementing the Affordability Grant Funding offered through the Alberta Government.

A new flat monthly parent fee was introduced:

    • $326.25 per month for children enrolled in full-time care (100+ hours per month).

    • $230 per month for children enrolled in part-time care (50–99 hours per month).

No action is required on your part to participate in this new fee structure. We will apply for the Affordability Grant on your behalf. However, to complete the application process, we are required to share certain information with the government. We will provide a list of the required details in this form and request your permission before sharing them.

The government has determined funding amounts based on the average fees of all licensed childcare centers in our area. This means that the funding we receive will be lower than our previous fees, which we have not increased since 2021. The funding model does not differentiate between centers of varying sizes and operational costs.

To continue offering quality care and services, we are permitted to charge additional fees for optional services such as transportation, field trips, meals, and extracurricular activities (e.g., dance or Engineering for Kids). Additionally, fines outlined in our Parent Handbook and any other fines will still apply, as they fall outside the scope of government funding.

  • Out of School Care Gr. 1 and Up

Children in Grade 1 and up do not receive Affordability Grant Funding but may receive subsidy
  • Eligible families can apply for child care subsidies if they have children in grades 1 to 6 enrolled in a licensed facility-based child care program.

Subsidy rates vary based on family income, the child care program and the number of hours a child attends each month.

A child's subsidy rate is determined by total family income, the child’s current grade, type of child care program, and the number of hours the child attends in a month. Use Line 15000 from the most recent Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Notice of Assessment to determine gross household income.

Review your eligibility and apply online for the fastest processing times using a computer, tablet or mobile phone through the Child Care Subsidy Application.

If you have applied for subsidy or currently have subsidy, please email Miranda@StepsAcademy.ca and let her know so that there is no delay in applying your subsidy to your monthly tuition.
