  • The Brian M. French, PhD, RN Advancing Nursing Science Grant

    To promote the mission and vision of the Foundation for Nursing Advancement in Massachusetts (FNAMA), the Brian M. French, PhD, RN  Advancing Nursing Science Grant (French Grant) is designed to support nurses pursuing careers as nurse scientists and nurse researchers for the purpose of advancing nursing science, developing nursing knowledge and improving outcomes for patients and families and/or nurses.  One $1500 grant will be awarded annually to support a nurse's dissertation research study. 
  • Eligibility Requirements:

    Applicants seeking the French Grant must be a Massachusetts licensed registered nurse pursing a PhD in nursing at an accredited university. Applicant must be a student in good standing and have successfully passed their comprehensive examinations and defended their research study proposal.  It is not necessary to have Institutional Review Board approval (IRB) prior to proposal submission however, IRB approval(s) are required prior to release of funds and study conduction. Applicants must be residents of Massachusetts who plan to continue their career as a nurse in Massachusetts post-dissertation defense.  Applicants must obtain a letter of support from the applicant’s advisor/dissertation chair. Faculty must attest that the student has successfully passed their comprehensive evaluations and defended their proposal, give a reference regarding the student’s performance in their doctoral program, approve the content of the research proposal, and attest that student is progressing to completion.

    Notification for the decision regarding the award will be sent in February 2026. Funds will be disbursed by June 1, 2026. Recipient must attend the 2026 FNAMA Scholarship Gala on April 10, 2026,
