• The Horace Mungin Social Justice Award

When literary giant and Hollywood, S.C. native Horace Mungin penned his first published work in 1968 it was the beginning of a writing career that helped to launch Black Arts Movement.  Mungin’s poetry and prose incited, instigated, and awakened a yearning for true freedom that gave voice to the oppressed. This award will be presented at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., reception annually.
