Fundraising (Troop Leader & Adult Girl Scout Members Only)
*Girl Scout Ambassadors & Seniors can fundraise for philanthropic donations for Girl Scouts Gold Awards. (GSUSA-Blue Book)
Badgerland Council offers council-sponsored product sales of authorized products twice a year. The Badgerland Fall Fundraiser sale is in the fall and the Girl Scout Cookie sale is in the spring. These opportunities are for registered Girl Scouts in various membership pathways to earn funds to support their Girl Scout activities.
Girl Scout troops are financed by dues and a share of money earned through the above mentioned council-sponsored product sales. Troops and individuals should budget for their activities based on the amount raised through these council-sponsored sales. IF additional troop money earning/fundraising is needed for a Take Action Project, Girl Scout Activities, or travel opportunity, troop leaders or membership areas must comply with the following guidelines and must submit a completed “Fundraiser Approval Form” (this form) at least three weeks prior for approval for any fundraisers.
Fundraising is defined as the act of collecting or producing money for a particular purpose, especially for a charity. Within Girl Scouts, fundraising refers to activities organized & carried out by troop leaders and adult registered volunteers-that earn money for participation in Girl Scout activities.
During your activity planning phase, please use this form to check the following requirements for participation:
Inappropriate Fundraising activities may include:
- Partnering with restaurants/businesses to receive a portion of their proceeds
- Raising or collecting funds for other organizations
- Sales of gift cards, coupon books, or candy bars for other Organizations/businesses
- Product demonstration parties
- Games of chance (raffles, drawings, lotteries)
- Direct solicitation of cash
- Sales or endorsement of commercial products
- Door-to-door sales other than council-sponsored products
- Internet sales; Go-Fund Me pages; “crowd sourcing”
Examples of appropriate Adult Fundraising may include:
- Event that troop leader has and charges for - then proceeds are used for troop activities. Example- $4.00 pool party & some or all money goes to troop.
- An adult can choose to host a product demonstration party (Pampered Chef, Premier, Avon) and make a donation to a troop or service unit, but the event cannot be marketed as a fundraiser for Girl Scouts and girls cannot be involved.
- Adults may ask for donations of cash, gift cards or supplies from companies that do not exceed a value of $250. Any request over $250 must first be approved by Girl Scouts -WI Badgerland Fund Development department. Leaders must record cash gifts over $250 using the Troop Donation Form.
Adults requesting funds or items must be registered with Girl Scouts-WI Badgerland and may not represent the council when making a request - only ask on behalf of the troop or service unit. If the company requests documentation, such as 501(c)(3) or verification of involvement with Girl Scouts-WI Badgerland, contact us at info@gsbadgerland.org.
