This program facilitates a local and national exchange between artists in the dance field by offering classes and workshops in the Seattle area. Velocity and Rituals are excited to invest in this partnership, founded on intentional community building, process over product, and physical research through the tender magic of class taking.

                Class Level: Intermediate - Professional

In this class, we will approach the Horton technique with ease, levity, and joy. Through a warm up center, movement across the floor, and a combination we will prioritize tending to the needs of our bodies in the moment.

                Fri. OCT 2 | 9:30-11:30am | Body as Altar

                with Jay Carlon

                Class Level: Open Level

Body as Altar is an embodied workshop led by Jay Carlon that accompanies his performance HARNESS. Through movement, meditation, reflection, and communal altar-building, participants explore the body as a site of memory, ritual, and healing. Rooted in the Indigenous Filipino philosophy of Kapwa (shared identity), the workshop invites participants to honor grief, cultivate connection, and imagine collective transformation. No dance experience is required.

                Tues. OCT 6 | 9:30-11:30am | Fluid Dynamics

                with Vlada Kremenović

                Class Level: Open Level

In this improvisational dance workshop, we will dive into the evolving relationships between body, forms, imagery and time through guided movement scores and collective experimentation.

We will begin with a warm-up that journeys from the floor to standing, drawing inspiration from biological and geological processes. Through a series of compositional exercises, we'll deepen our connection to each other, time, and space while making room for curiosity, play, and meaning-making. The workshop will culminate in a group exploration of a score from my upcoming performance, MEDUSA, inspired by the jellyfish life cycle.

Open to everyone interested in movement and physical exploration, no prior dance experience is necessary.

                Fri. OCT 9 | 9:30-11:30am | Studio Practice

                with Jesse Zarrit

                Class Level: Open Level

Class will begin with guided research practices that examine relationships between curiosity, desire, strength, organizations of effort/force and ideology/aesthetics: practices of critical physicality! Phrase-work will be shared as a portal to play. Choreographed material will act as a set of coordinates that anchor an exploration of exaggeration and sensation. We’ll fall into and out of lush, decadent movement experiences.

                Class Level: Open Level

Through dancing sweating and laughter, the body is trained to maintain

a high frequency and consciously act in space. In this workshop,

participants are encouraged to use their imagination and discover their

individual physical orchestra while integrating different dance forms

into the practice in an exploration of the freedom of choice and the

trust in one’s own body. Space and geometry are also added as

elements to increase sensitivity and create immediate choices and

                choreographic momentum
