Art Loan Program Application & Process

The City of Moreno Valley, on occasion, may wish to display works of art in a city facility to enhance the aesthetics of the facility. The City's Arts Commission, appointed by City Council, shall recommend to the City Manager, or designated personnel, works of art to be displayed. All works of art shall be on formal loan to the City and will be displayed at the sole discretion of the City. Thank you for your interest in the City's Public Art Loan.

Works of arts are accepted from Moreno Valley residents, employees of Moreno Valley businesses, born in Moreno Valley, or a family member of a deceased artist who resided, worked or was born in Moreno Valley.

All works of art shall be original and either gallery wrapped canvas or suitably framed with screw eyes and wire. Work shall be securely constructed.

The Arts Commission evaluates each art piece to determined which art is recommended for exhibit. Evaluations are based on the following criteria.

1.Quality: The inherent quality of work

2.Media: Media that can be reasonably accommodated in the exhibit area.

3.Style: All artworks of style will be considered

4.Nature: Appropriate in scale, material, form, and content for general and social environments.

5.Diversity: Diversity of style, scale, media, artists (including ethnicity and gender

6.Art work that is inherently dangerous or unstable or if a material that may decay is not eligible for exhibit.

There is NO fee for exhibit the artwork.

3.Complete, print, and sign release of liability

Signature below certifies that applicant has read, understands, and agrees to comply with the Art Loan Policy. Applicant further understands that s/he will exhibit her/his work of art at her/his own risk and that the City of Moreno Valley assumes no responsibility for the exhibit.

This agreement is entered into by the City of Moreno Valley and the Artist who is lending their work of art to the City subject to the City of Moreno Valley’s Public Art Loan Policy.

1)I have received and read the City of Moreno Valley Art Loan Policy for City Facilities and agree to abide by all its rules and regulations.

2)I assume complete responsibility for the transportation of my artwork to and from the City’s Parks and Community Services Department on the dates coordinated for the installation and removal of my exhibit by the City and will timely install and remove my exhibit as directed by the City.

3)I unconditionally release the City of Moreno Valley, the Moreno Valley Housing Authority (HA), and the Moreno Valley Community Services District (CSD), and all its officers, agents, and employees from any liability in connection with or arising out of the display of my artwork at a City facility.

4)I will not hold the City of Moreno Valley, the Moreno Valley Housing Authority (HA), and the Moreno Valley Community Services District (CSD), and all its officers, agents, and employees liable for any damage, destruction, loss or theft to my artwork in connection with or arising out of the display of my artwork at a City facility regardless of the cause of such damage, destruction, loss, or theft.

5)I will leave the space in the City facility in the same condition as it existed when the exhibit was installed, as determined by the City in its reasonable discretion, and I will be responsible for making any repairs to the City facility that the City determines are necessary as a result of the display of my artwork in the City facility.

6)I fully assume liability for any and all damages to the City facility resulting from my exhibit and will reimburse the City for any such damage in the amount determined by the City.
