2026 Captain of the Year - Friends of Coal

Friends of Coal (The Kentucky Coal Association) in partnership with the Kentucky High School Athletic Association will award (2) $1,000 scholarships to one male and one female athlete that embody Kentucky values and traditions.

The two recipients will be named “2026 Friends of Coal Captains of the Year” and awards will be presented at the 2026 UK HealthCare Boys’ Sweet Sixteen® in March at Rupp Arena.

This is a one time award and a nonrenewable scholarship.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

High school graduating senior
Team Captain at a KHSAA member school
Participate in one or more KHSAA sports or sport activities during the 2025-2026 school year
Minimum GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale, if weighted, GPA must be converted to 4.0 scale by counselor)
Accepted to a higher education 2 year, 4 year or trade school institution
Submission of all fields requested on this application
