    The purpose of the Urban Health Opportunities Program (UHOP) is to enhance the healthcare workforce serving medically underserved populations in urban Nebraska by identifying and preparing qualified students to enter and succeed in health professions training.

    UHOP Pre-Medicine Program Highlights

    • Tuition assistance at UNO starting freshman year for UHOP scholars
    • Automatic UNO Pre-Medical Committee sponsorship
    • Mentoring by UNMC medical students
    • MCAT preparation assistance
    • Opportunities to provide mentorship
    • Successful program completion results in guaranteed admission to the UNMC Medical Doctorate (M.D.) program


    Requirements for UHOP Pre-Medicine Eligibility

    • High School OR College GPA ≥3.25
    • ACT Composite and Math Score ≥24 (will also accept UNO's ALEKS Math Placement test)
    • 2 Letters of Recommendation
    • Demonstrate a strong interest in a career of medicine
    • Nebraska Residency
    • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency
    • Apply as a High School Senior
      • Students are able to apply until the end of their sophomore year of college, we recommend students apply in high school if possible

    Please carefully review the information below. This will contain application steps, outline the information you will need to provide, and list necessary contact information for the UHOP Application team.

    All steps must be completed by January 17th, 2026 at 11:59 PM. We must receive all application materials in order to be considered.The scholarship is not first come first serve. All applications will be evaluated after January 17th.

    Step 2: Complete the application questionaire on the next page.

    Step 3: Identify two individuals to write you a letter of recommendation and send them the following link: Letter of Recommendation Form

    READ CAREFULLY: Instructions Below Regarding the Letters of Recommendation

    Letters of recommendation can be from the following: a high school principal, a high school counselor, a high school science teacher, an academic advisor, a college professor, and/or a medical professional. 


    The UHOP team will not send letter requests to your letter writer. You must send the link above to your letter writers so that they can submit your recommendation.

    Step 4: Throughout the application you will be asked to provide the following uploads:

    • Attach your RESUME, which should include academic, extracurricular, and employment information.
    • Complete short answer #1

    • Attach all relevant transcripts (highschool, college)
       

    Note: Application is open to both high school seniors and current college students.
