Ultimate responsibility for programming rests with the Library Director, who in turn, delegates program development and management responsibility to the Programming Departments which includes Adult Programs, Garden Programs, and Youth Services.
In developing and delivering programs, the Programming Departments utilize staff expertise, collections, equipment, and facilities. The following criteria are used in making decisions about program topics, speakers, and accompanying resources:
- Community needs and interests
- Cultural or educational significance
- Relevance to community and library resources, programs, and events
- Presentation quality
- Presenter background/qualifications
- Budget, cost of program, and staff time and availability
- Availability of appropriate space required for program, in-house or off-site
Library programs are funded through fines and donations or are sponsored by the Faulkner County Friends of the Library. Library staff members who present programs do so as a part of their job. The Faulkner County Library System also contracts with outside facilitators and additional paperwork may be necessary, including a w9, proof of insurance, and/or city permits when applicable.
Library programs held at library locations are free to attend/participate and open to the public.
The Faulkner County Library draws upon community resources in developing programs and attemps to partner with other community organizations, educational and cultural institutions or individuals to present and/or co-sponsor programs. Library programs are funded through fines, grants, and donations, or are sponsored by the Friends of the Faulkner County Library. Acknowledgement of sponsoring organizations or businesses may appear in program flyers and other promotional materials.
Library sponsorship of or involvement with a program does not constitute an endorsement of the content of the program, the views expressed by participants, or the views of the presenter/performer.
Library programs must have an educational, informational, or cultural value to the community.
The Faulkner County Library System does not offer programs that are purely political in nature, such as supporting or opposing a political candidate, political party, or ballot measure. However, election information, such as candidate and town hall forums that include invitations to all recognized candidates, may be offered.
Every attempt will be made to accommodate all who wish to attend a program. However, when the safety or the success of a program requires it, attendance may be limited by number or to a certain age group. When limits must be established, attendance will be determined on a first come, first served basis, either with advanced registration or at the door. Those arriving late to a program that is in progress may not be guaranteed seating even if they registered.
Program facilitators and participants should expect that photographs/video may be taken at events and used in library promotional materials including online sites. Participants may request that their image not be used by the Faulkner County Library System.
