    A Cal State Fullerton Program Open to Students from all Cal State Campuses

  • Spring 2026 Cal State DC Program Application

    Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.  However, to be considered for program financial awards, APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY Sunday, September 21st.  Students are strongly encouraged to submit program applications as soon as possible so that they can start the process of appyling for interships.

     

    Mandatory Orientation Sessions

    *ALL STUDENTS MUST ENROLL IN THE PROGRAM'S COURSEWORK.

    Mandatory orientations:

    All students must attend 5 mandatory preparatory orientations during the Fall Semester.
    Orientations are virtual for NON-CSUF students not in the Orange County/Los Angeles County area.

     

    Dates, times, and locations of the sessions will be announced shortly.

  • By submitting an application to the Cal State DC program, you are agreeing to allow the program Director and faculty access to your academic records. This includes your transcript and any information in your file with the student conduct/judicial affairs office. All information will be kept confidential to the extent allowed by Cal State policy.

  • Information for Prospective Internship Experience

  • Please answer the following questions. Attach an additional document if you need more room.

     

  • 1) List any extra-curricular activities you have participated in that you think are especially relevant to the Cal State DC program and an internship.

  • 2) List skills you have that you think are especially relevant to an internship. In particular, please specify whether you speak any languages in addition to English and your level of fluency.

  • 3) Do you possess any skills in database building, website development, statistics, GIS, or other analytical or media skills we should know about? If so, please specify which packages you are comfortable using such as Excel, Altrex, SPSS, etc.

  • 4) Do you have previous internship experience? If so, when, where, and for whom did you work?

  • 5) Is there a particular type of internship that currently interests you?

  • 6) Would it or would it not make a difference to you if you worked for a member of a particular political party? If partisan affiliation does make a difference to you, which party do you prefer?

  • 7) What personal qualities and skills would you expect to bring to an internship in Washington, D.C.? How does participation in such a program fit into your academic and career goals?

  • Please upload a copy of your resume.    In addition, please upload a sample cover letter.  This should NOT be a cover letter for applying to the program.  This should be a sample of a cover letter you might use to apply for an internship office in DC. We will review this and provide feedback to assist students with perfecting their resumes and cover letters.

  • APPLICATION CHECKLIST

    Please ensure that you submit all of these materials and that they are all completed. Students will not be accepted to the program until their application is complete.

  • Instructions

    Please arrange for a confidential letter of recommendation from a faculty member, a resume, a sample cover letter you might use to apply to an internship office, and a transcript (it may be unofficial). A confidential letter of recommendation is not read by the student but is sent directly to the program. Letters of recommendation should be from a college faculty member (if you have recently transferred to your school, it can be from a community college instructor) and should address your level of responsibility and emotional maturity, as well as any relevant skills or experiences. If you do not have a faculty member that can write the letter of recommendation, a work site supervisor can submit a letter.
