• IRS Payment Options Update

    2025
  • Dear valued clients,

    The IRS has recently announced that it will no longer permit paper checks after September 30, 2025. Electronic payments will be mandatory after that date. Also, the IRS will no longer issue paper refund checks.

    Options for making payments are:

    * IRS Direct Pay: free direct transfers from bank accounts

    * Electronic Funds Deposit and Withdrawal (integrated with e-filing)

    * Debit and credit card payments (note: fees may apply)

    * Digital Wallet (note: fees may apply)

    * Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS): a no-cost online or phone option requiring enrollment

    * Wire Transfers

    There may be some exemptions for taxpayers living abroad, estates, trusts, taxpayers without access to a bank and situations where undue hardship would result from this requirement.
