What is the Dollars for Arts Program?
Dollars for Art (DAP) is an annual grant program that provides funding to support creative projects by artists, organizations, and community groups that benefit the Oneida community in Wisconsin—helping to grow the arts in all forms from beginner to professional levels.
Eligbility Critera:
- Applicant must be 18 years or older
- Must be Oneida enrolled member or descendant. For organizations at least one member of the organization must be Oneida Enrolled or descendent.
- Must benefit the Oneida community in Wisconsin.
- Applicant must present a public display or performance during the grant period OR applicant agrees to serve as an artist mentor during the grant period.
- All project events must be open to the public.
- No cash match required.
- All applications reviewed by Community Peer Panel & Arts Board.
Activities NOT funded by DAP:
- Purchase of capital equipment (items costing more than $300 with a useful life of more than one year) or capital expenditures, e.g., renovation of existing facilities;
- Cannot purchase items to giveaway for prizes or awards
- Refreshments or receptions
- Activities not open to the general public
Grant Opportunities Available (must select only one per applicant):
Professional Artist Award
Available to a Professional Artist who wishes to work on a specific art project that will benefit the Oneida Community of Wisconsin. A professional artist is defined as an artist who: has specialized training in the artistic field (not necessarily in academic institutions), is recognized as a professional by his or her peers (artists working in the same art medium) and is committed to devoting more time to artistic activity.

1 artist award per grant cycle
Artist Development Award
Available to intermediate or established artists who wish to work on a specific art project that will benefit the Oneida Community of Wisconsin. An intermediate/ established artist is one who has grasped the basic techniques of their art medium and is actively pursuing the artform. Applicants may apply for an Artist Development Award multiple years, however they must show evidence of growth.

Arts Starts Award
Available to those wishing to explore the arts and being an artist. The award may not exceed $750.00 and is to be used to fund a class or lessons in the art medium the applicant is interested in.

Community Group Award
Available to community groups or tribal programs for arts projects that are new and innovative or significantly enhance an existing program in the Oneida Wisconsin community. Applicants must hold tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code; or an artist using a fiscal sponsor; or tribal department.

Application Process & what to expect:
Please read carefully and provide the following information in your application. All material must be submitted together in one submission.
Required Material to be uploaded in sections below:
I. NARRATIVE (1–2 typed pages)
Paragraph 1 – Project Overview
Provide a brief description of your proposed project:
- Describe your project, including where it will take place, who will be involved, and each person’s role.
- Share your current stage as an artist. What art medium(s) do you practice, and how long have you been working in them? Identify yourself as an emerging, established, or professional artist.
- Explain how this project will support your artistic growth.
Paragraph 2 – Community Impact
Describe how your project will benefit the Oneida community:
- Identify where the public component will take place, or who you will mentor.
- Explain why this project is important or needed.
- Describe your plan to market your project to the general public. Include details on how you plan to credit Oneida Nation Arts Program, Wisconsin Arts Board and the National Endowment for the Arts
Paragraph 3 – Previous DAP Funding (if applicable)
If you have received a DAP grant before, please include:
When you received funding and a brief description of the project.
How your proposed project builds on your past experience.
What you will do differently in this project compared to your previous one(s).

Art Starts Applicants:
What art medium will you explore? Why are you interested in it? Who will teach you, and where will you learn?
Community Award Applicants:
What is your organization’s mission? How many Native artists will participate, and how many community members will your project reach?
II. BUDGET SUMMARY PAGE
You must include a budget summary showing how you will use your grant funds.
List all project expenses clearly (supplies, travel, space, etc.). Your total budget must equal the amount you are requesting. All funds must be used only for your project.

75% of your award will be paid in October 2026
The remaining 25% will be paid 3–4 weeks after your final grant report is approved

III. LABELED WORK SAMPLES
Visual Arts: Five digital photographs of artwork labeled and uploaded below
Literary Arts: Five examples of writings that equate to no more than 10 pages that are labeled and uploaded below.
Music, Dance and Theatre: Provide the link to five minutes of performance(s) in your application submission.
IV. ADDITIONAL SUPPORTING MATERIALS (Optional)
1. A maximum of five additional supporting materials will be accepted. Examples of supporting materials include: an artist bio, an artist resume, letters of support, etc.)
2. DAP grant applicants are strongly encouraged to attend the grant panel review and present a maximum of a five-minute presentation about the project to the panel.

Judging:
Review & judging of applications will be conducted by a selection committee of volunteer community members the Oneida Arts board then reviews and approves each award amount and budget. This is anticipated to take place August 4 - August 15, 2026.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Completing this form and submitting an application does not confirm an award. All applicants will be reviewed & judged by a volunteer selection committee.
