Invitation to The Aitken School Program
Spring 2026 – April 20th thru May 15th, 2026
LaSalle County ranks among the most historic tracts of land in Illinois. Where else can students learn and experience the historic development of their county and its impact on the state and nation? Consider a field trip to the LaSalle County Historical Museum Complex!
Students will learn about:
EARLY EXPLORERS and SETTLERS - NATIVE AMERICANS - GEOLOGIC FORMATION - NATURAL RESOURCES as related to AGRICULTURE & INDUSTRY - INVENTIONS - EDUCATION
The full day of exploration and interaction will support the Illinois Learning Standards for Social Science 4th grade- History Standards.
HALF DAY VISIT - 9am-12pm
Includes a session at the Aitken School, a visit to our Canal Warehouse and Heritage Center museums, and Blacksmith demonstration.
FULL DAY VISIT - 9am-2pm
Includes a session at the Aitken School, the Canal Warehouse and Heritage Center Museums, the Blacksmith Shop, and the Post-and-Beam Barn. Throughout the day there will be many old-time demonstrations.
This program is offered free to LaSalle County residents. Donations to our Aitken School Program are always welcome and help support this program!
ADD ON: Geologic History and Gem Mining at THE ROCK AND SOUL: The Rock and Soul will present a 500 million year geologic history, share UV gems and minerals, and provide a gem mining experience. Enjoy the exciting atmosphere of discovery as the students find beautiful, unique gems and minerals at the sluice mining stations. This addition is $10 per student and includes all the gems and minerals found by the student, and a small gift bag from the shop.
