For more than 36 years, the traditions of Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) have been honored and celebrated by residents of San Rafael, Marin County and beyond. The goal of our celebration is to reunite the diverse communities of our city and county in sharing a grateful acknowledgment of the continuing ebb and flow of existence. We offer free, community-oriented events which feature live Latin music and dance performances by local ensembles (including youth), Aztec dancing and ceremonies, arts and crafts workshops for children, face painting, storytelling, walking processions in the Canal neighborhood, and altars in the community: personal memorials of the life, times, values, contributions, and human spirit of our loved ones who have passed on.
