  • This Adoption Agreement (“Agreement”) is entered into on the date of signature below, by and between:

  • (Hereinafter referred to collectively as the “Parties,” and individually as “Adopter” or “Rescue”).

  • 1. Transfer of Ownership

  • Rescue agrees to transfer ownership of the above-named animal (“Pet”) to Adopter upon execution of this Agreement and acceptance by Rescue.


    The Pet is adopted “as is.” Rescue makes no warranties or guarantees as to the Pet’s health, temperament, behavior, training, or fitness for a particular purpose. Adopter has received veterinary records, including proof of current vaccinations and any known treatments.

  • 2. Adopter’s Responsibilities

    Adopter agrees to the following terms (please initial each):
  • 1.  Care & Control:  Pet will remain under Adopter’s control at all times,never permitted to roam freely outside without a secure fence, and always kept on a leash in compliance with local leash laws.

  • 2.  Indoor Living: Pet will live as a household companion and family member. Pet will not be kept outdoors unsupervised, tied, or chained.

  • 3.  Medical Care: Adopter will bring provided medical records to a licensed veterinarian. Adopter will obtain and administer monthly heartworm prevention as prescribed. Pet will be examined by a licensed veterinarian at least once per year and will remain current on vaccinations and preventative care.

  • 4.  Spay/Neuter Requirement: All pets will be spayed/neutered before adoption is finalized and before transport. If, in exceptional cases, the Pet is still intact at the time of transport, adoption will be conditional. Adopter must have the Pet spayed/neutered by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days of transport and provide proof of the procedure to Rescue. Adoption will not be granted, and no fee will be due, until proof of sterilization is received. Failure to complete this requirement will void this Agreement, and the Pet must be returned to Rescue.

  • 5.  Microchip Registration: Adopter must register the Pet’s microchip with their contact information within 30 days of adoption and maintain accurate, up-to-date registration for the lifetime of the Pet.

  • 6.  Training & Socialization: Adopter commits to providing appropriate training and socialization for the Pet using humane methods. This may include attending basic obedience classes or working with a professional trainer if necessary to address behavioral issues.

  • 7.  Home Visits & Follow-Ups: Adopter agrees that Rescue may conduct reasonable home visits or welfare checks after adoption to ensure the Pet’s well-being and provide support if needed

  • 8.  Compliance with Laws: Adopter will comply with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding pet ownership, including licensing requirements and leash laws.

  • 9.  Return Policy: If Adopter is unable or unwilling to keep the Pet for any reason, Pet must be returned only to Rescue. Adopter agrees not to surrender the Pet to an animal shelter, animal control, or another rescue, nor rehome or give away the Pet without written consent from Rescue. If the Pet must be transported back to Texas, Adopter agrees to cover all transport costs, which typically range from $250 to $375 depending on size and location.

  • 10.  Updates: Adopter agrees to provide Rescue with updates, including photographs and a brief report on the Pets health and well-being, at least twice per year for the lifetime
    of the Pet.

  • 11. Right of Reclamation: If Adopter fails to provide proper care as outlined in this Agreement, Rescue has the right to reclaim the Pet. Upon written notice of breach, ownership immediately reverts to Rescue, and Adopter must return the Pet within 24 hours. Failure to return the Pet will subject Adopter to liquidated damages of $2,500.00 plus Rescue’s attorney’s fees, court costs, and expenses. Venue for any legal dispute will be Harris County, Texas.

  • 12.  Liability & Indemnification: Adopter assumes full responsibility and liability for the Pet upon adoption and agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Rescue, its volunteers, and affiliates from any claims, damages, or liabilities caused by the Pet.

    I, the undersigned Adopter, have read and fully understand this Agreement. I agree to comply with all terms and accept full responsibility for the care, well-being, and ownership of the Pet.
