  • New Life Academy Technology Agreement

     

    At NLA, students are expected to use technology in responsible, ethical, legal, and God-honoring ways.  All technology (school-owned and personal) used at school will be used as directed by NLA staff, for educational purposes, with respect for others and is subject to the guidelines and policies set forth in this document. With a suitable device, students will be able to access the school’s internet via wireless on their device. All internet access through the school network is routed through a firewall and filtering system for the internet. Student use of the network is appropriately monitored and logged. Students are expected to use the network responsibly and to comply with school expectations and the NLA Technology Agreement. In using the network, students grant staff permission to conduct any necessary investigations at school regarding inappropriate use of their device at any time.

    Student Responsibilities

    During the school day, students agree to use both school and personal technology resources for educational purposes as directed by NLA staff.  Technology resources include: cell phones, computers, tablets, iPods and electronic game equipment.
    Students must turn in cell phones in the morning to their teacher and phones will be returned during dismissal. 
    Students agree not to use technology with camera/video capabilities in restrooms/locker rooms at any time.
    Students agree not to use social media during school hours unless approved by NLA Staff.
    Students agree not to use technology to engage in harassment, defamation, or threatening or discriminatory behavior.
    Students agree not to access objectionable or obscene material.
    Students agree to only download files or install programs on school owned devices with NLA approval.
    Plagiarism and copyright infringement is strictly forbidden.
    Students agree to take reasonable precautions to maintain and to protect physical/virtual technology resources. 
    Students agree to abide by care instructions as outlined in any guides, manuals, or verbal instructions.
    Students agree to keep food and drink away from technology resources.
    Students agree not to attempt to damage, destroy or otherwise physically abuse NLA technology resources.
    Attempting or actual modification of software, firewalls, or other restrictions or protections without authorization from technology staff is strictly prohibited.
    Business activities such as the buying and selling of goods and services, advertising, etc. using technology resources is prohibited unless approved by administration.
    Any damage to or malfunction of technology resources, whether accidental or not, is to be reported promptly and with full disclosure to the technology staff.

    Students agree to refrain from the use of banned apps (listed in the handbook) while registered at NLA. 

     

    Parents Responsibilities

    Parents are responsible for monitoring and supervising the student's use of devices and internet outside of school.  

    Parents agree to monitor web use, apps, social media and overall use of devices at home and ensure that all applicable school policies are enforced inside and outside of school. 

    Parents are responsible to have full access to student's device. Parents should monitor passwords, app usage, browsing history, and new apps, games  or websites before students use them. 

    Parents agree to setting restrictions on student's devices, having any unrestriced devices in common areas, and downtimes that enforce digital "bedtimes" for students. 

    Parents agree to join with NLA to guide students to use technology in a positive and moral way and to honor God in all things. 

     

    Safety and Privacy

    Students agree to use only approved logins to access accounts.
    Students agree to protect and maintain their accounts by logging out.
    Students agree to monitor and report unusual activity on technology resources.
    Students agree not to access, modify or destroy other students’ information.
    Students agree not to allow use of technology resources by unauthorized persons.
    Students agree that all electronic files stored on school resources, including e-mail messages, are property of NLA.
    Students acknowledge that NLA administration and technology staff reserve the right to inspect files stored on school resources for conformity with policies, licensing standards and state, or federal law.

    Additional Guidelines for Online Communication

    Students agree to use God honoring, respectful, and encouraging language in technology communications.
    Students agree to report any communication that seems inappropriate or makes them feel uncomfortable.
    Students agree not to engage in conduct that includes but is not limited to:
    False Identification in email communications.
    Interfering with NLA technology operations through·Electronic chain letters
    Unsolicited electronic communications
    Disruptions of electronic communications

     

     


     

    Disciplinary Action

    NLA maintains the right to immediately withdraw the access and use of student accounts when there is reason to believe violations of law or school policies have occurred.  Violation of any part of the Technology Agreement, in addition to the restriction or suspension of access to technology resources, may result in financial restitution or other disciplinary measures as determined by NLA administration.

     

    NLA Technology Agreement

    This contract applies at all times that students use the device for school-based activities. I have read this agreement carefully and understand the significance of the conditions and agree to abide by these conditions. I understand that if I do not follow these requirements and use technology responsibly, my access to the internet and digital technologies at school may be suspended, revoked or renegotiated and that other consequences may apply, depending on the nature and severity of my misuse or misbehavior.

    I understand that I am responsible for the device and that the school will not be liable for any devices damaged or stolen at school or on school-related activities.
