The Sequim Arts Commission is pleased to announce a call for entries for Black & White, an exhibition exploring the power, elegance, and emotion found in the absence of color.
Black and white—together with the full range of grays—have long been used to evoke drama, purity, and depth. For this exhibition, we invite artists to interpret this classic palette in any way: abstraction, realism, minimalism, or bold expression. Works may explore duality, balance, tension, or harmony using black, white, and shades of gray as dominant elements.
This show celebrates the timeless contrast of light and shadow, form and texture, simplicity and complexity. Black and white offer a powerful means to explore contrast, emotion, and form.
Artists are encouraged to submit works that interpret this theme in innovative, expressive, and thought-provoking ways. Suggested themes include:
- Contrast & Duality – light vs. dark, simplicity vs. complexity
- Form & Texture – where shape and surface become the focus
- Symbolism & Emotion – stark, moody, bold, or minimalistic expressions
Works should predominantly feature black, white, and grayscale tones. Subtle accents of color will be considered only if they enhance the monochromatic concept.
This exhibition will be displayed in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery from November 7, 2025 through January 21, 2026. The deadline to submit artwork to this call will be September 17, at 4pm. Artwork will be juried by the Sequim Arts Commission on Monday, September 22, 2025 and notifications will go out to artists by end of September, 2025.
