The FDA now recommends
that patients ages 65+ and/or those who have underlying conditions that put them at higher risk receive one dose of the 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine. Those who don't fall into a high-risk category can only get the vaccine with approval from a doctor.
For adults 18–64 years old, the new COVID-19 vaccine has been approved by the FDA, which means it’s been reviewed for safety and effectiveness. However, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) hasn’t fully released their final recommendations yet.
Because of this, insurance coverage may not be guaranteed right away. Some patients may need to wait until ACIP and CDC guidance is finalized to make sure the vaccine is covered without out-of-pocket costs.
