Throughout the holidays Gardiner is creating a magical village for everyone to discover the joy of the season. Gardiner Main Street invites organizations, businesses, neighborhoods, and individuals to join Gardiner’s Magical Holiday Village Parade of Lights!
Parade Information: Here are some guidelines: Develop your entry focusing on the theme of Magical Holiday Village; include lots of lights on floats, cars and people; include music, live or recorded; think about how you might engage with folks on the street; be creative. We will be awarding the entries that best meet the entry guidelines (theme, lights, music engagement, creativity). Winners will receive awards from Gardiner merchants plus bragging rights. Keep in mind the parade is all for fun, to build community, and to create excitement about our town. Most of all, enjoy the experience! Please share this information with others!
Safety is our biggest concern. Please assign adults to walk alongside your vehicle, especially if you plan to engage parade goers. Hand out candy, rather than throwing candy. Be mindful of children attempting to enter the street along the route. Please help keep the street clean. Follow the directions of the parade personnel as they try to keep the spaces safe.
Important dates to keep in mind.
Friday November 28th – Deadline for all registrations: To properly assign space in the parade, we MUST receive the registration by November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. For safety reasons, the line-up and length of the parade must be set in advance. Therefore, pre-registration is required for the parade.
Wednesday, December 3rd - Parade Positions: We will contact you regarding your line-up position and starting area. Please note: if you do not hear from us, call Kathy Brown 443-7396458 or Tamara at Gardiner Main Street at 207-582-3100. Sometimes setting parade positions takes longer than anticipated!
Saturday December 6th – Gardiner Parade of Lights If the weather makes it impossible to have the parade, we will make an announcement on the Gardiner Main Street Facebook page. You are welcome to call us (Kathy Brown or Tamara Whitmore.)
For the parade day:
- Check-in is between 3:30 – 4:00pm at the Parade Registration Table located at the corner of Winter St and Summer St. ONLY FLOATS OR VEHICLES IN THE ACTUAL PARADE WILL BE ADMITTED TO THIS AREA – IF YOU ARE DROPPING OFF CHILDREN YOU MUST PARK AT THE DOLLAR STORE AND WALK THEM IN. Please, do not drive into staging area!
- Float or entry leader: If you have children walking or on a float you are responsible for informing parents/adults that they are not to drive into staging areas to drop off their children. It is very dangerous!
- Check-in for all entries (Someone representing the entry MUST check in.) Check in at the Parade Registration table in front of the MICA building, even if you have already received your line-up position.
- All entries will receive a number to display and to signify your place in the parade.
4:30pm -the Parade begins promptly!
