    Thank you for expressing your interest in volunteering for Hindmarsh Shire Council. This form can be used to apply for membership to a Council Committee or as a general volunteer for Hindmarsh Shire Council.

  • Eligibility

  • All Committees Nominees must be able to commit to attend 80% of meetings as well as additional volunteer hours to deliver Committee activities as required. 
    All Advisory Committees Nominees must work, study or reside within the town (or district surrounding the town) and must be committeed to the purpose of the Committee.
    Hindmarsh Pride Committee

    Nominees must:

    • Have knowledge and understanding of the needs and issues relevant to the LGBTIQ+ community;
    • Have capacity to analyse information and provide advice on issues affecting the LGBTIQ+ community; and
    • Have willingness and ability to engage in open and respectful discussions that add value to the Reference Group and liveability of the Hindmarsh LGBTIQ+ community.
    All Community Asset Committees Nominees must be committed to the purpose of the Committee and to promoting accessible and inclusive use of the relevant facility.

  • I understand that the motor vehicle I own, which I will use to conduct volunteer work on behalf of Council, must have comprehensive motor vehicle insurance. I understand that if this insurance is to lapse, then I will no longer drive my vehicle on behalf of Council and I agree that I will inform the Council immediately so that alternative arrangements can be made.

  •  Code of Conduct

    • Reliability and Punctuality: Be dependable and notify the council if you cannot attend a rostered shift, service, meeting or other relevant program.
    • Following instructions: Adhere to the role description, policies, procedures, and any reasonable instructions from your Volunteer Coordinator.
    • Professionalism and respect: Represent the council professionally and treat everyone (other volunteers, staff, councillors, and community members) with respect.
    • Confidentiality: Respect and maintain the confidentiality of information accessed in your capacity as a volunteer. 
    • Safety: Always take care to ensure your own health and safety and the health and safety of those around you, ensuring all hazards and incidents are reporting to your Volunteer Coordinator.
    • Resources: Use Council resources responsibility, ethically and only for official approved purposes. Never utilise Council resources for personal use or gain, including for friends, family or other members of the public.
    • Financial management: Unless otherwise specified in an instrument of delegation, do not incur expenditure or engage in any financial management matter (i.e. verbally committing Council to expenditure, seeking quotes for services or goods etc.) that may commit, or be seen to commit, Council to any procurement. 
    • Integrity: Act honestly and with integrity at all times, and do not misuse your position or authority granted by Council. 
    • Conflicts of Interest: Avoid situations where your personal interests could conflict with your volunteer role.
    • Gifts and Benefits: Do not seek or accept any payment, gift or benefit for any service or function of your volunteer duties. 
    • Personal Opinions: Do not express any personal opinions that reflect negatively on Council when acting in your capacity as a volunteer. If you express a personal opinion, ensure that it is clear that it is not a reflection of Council or an official Council position. 
    • Media: All media enquiries must be directed to the Volunteer Coordinator who will liaise with the Chief Executive Officer regarding any public comment.
    • Child Safety: Volunteers must understand their responsibilities under Council's Child Safety Policy and adhere to this Policy at all times.
    • Out of Pocket Expenses: Prior to any purchase, potential out-of-pocket expenses should be discussed and approved by your supervisor.

  • Police Check and Working With Children Check
    Hindmarsh Shire Council is responsible for ensuring the safety of our community through all of our services, projects, events and committees. It is a requirement that all volunteers complete a Police Check prior to undertaking any volunteer responsibilities. Depending on your volunteer role, you may be required to hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC). Once you have submitted your form, someone from our team will reach out to you about any additional requirements. 

    We greatly appreciate your contributions in making Hindmarsh a safe and healthy community.

    Advisory Committees and Community Asset Committees Appointments
    Your application will be considered by Council at an upcoming Council meeting. If approved, we will notify you via letter and confirm any additional requirements for your appointment to your nominated committee. We will also provide a timeframe that you will need to provide these additional requirements to Council by. 

    General Volunteers
    Your application will be considered. If approved, we will notify you via letter and confirm any additional requirements for you to volunteer for your nominated community group. We will also provide a timeframe that you will need to provide these additional requirements to Council by.
