Virginia Association of Museums - Volunteer Application

Ready to make connections, build experience, serve and contribute to the Virginia museum community? Volunteer with VAM!

Any member of VAM is eligible to apply to join a committee, become a mentor, help to review resumes or serve on the council to support member services, financial sustainability, strategic planning, programs, and more. Filling out this application does not guarantee acceptance.

Qualifications

A standing member of VAM.
A commitment to VAM and its values; an understanding of VAM’s objectives, organization and services.
Willingness to grow and gain experience in various aspects of the museum field.
Be proactive in thinking about trends in the field.
A commitment to actively volunteer time, knowledge, and expertise to committee work.

Commitment

Average 3-4 hours per month to include meetings and projects. May be more for certain sub-committees depending on programming needs.
Occasional assistance and attendance with VAM programs and events relevant to committee work, plus travel time.
Attend meetings (mainly virtually).
Missing two (2) meetings with unreported absences or three (3) meetings with unreported absences during a year shall indicate an intention to resign.
Actively participate in committee meetings and projects and respond to communication in a timely manner.
