    Mountain Learn & Play Program

The Mountain Learn & Play Program is designed to give children, ages 12 months to 5 years of age, the perfect balance of learning, creativity, and fun in a safe, nurturing environment. Our program blends engaging educational activities with hands-on play, helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. This program is for children who are not enrolled in a school program. This program allows you the ability to drop off your child for an hour or more on an occasional basis or to take advantage of our discounts and have them come to us to play on a regular weekly or monthly time frame.

Children will enjoy a variety of experiences, including:

📚 Learning Time – Homework help, reading practice, and skill-building activities tailored to support school success.
🎨 Creative Play – Arts, crafts, and imaginative projects that encourage self-expression and creativity.
🤸 Active Play – Games, movement, and outdoor activities that keep kids energized and healthy.
🌟 Character Building – Opportunities to learn teamwork, responsibility, and respect while having fun with peers.

The Mountain Learn & Play Program isn’t just about learning the shapes, colors, and numbers—it’s a place where kids can thrive, make friends, and discover new passions while enjoying the beautiful mountain community they call home.

    Tutor & Tumble Program

Our Tutor & Tumble Program combines the best of both worlds—academic support and active play! Students begin with a focused tutoring session where they receive help with homework, reading, math, and other school subjects in a small-group setting. Our tutors provide personalized guidance to build confidence, strengthen skills, and encourage a love for learning.

After their study time, kids get to enjoy the “tumble” portion of the program in the gym—running, jumping, and tumbling through fun activities that keep them moving and energized. This unique blend of learning and physical activity ensures that students not only make progress in the classroom but also develop coordination, confidence, and healthy habits.

The Tutor & Tumble Program is perfect for families looking for a balance of academic growth and active play in a safe, supportive environment.

  • Discipline Policy Statement

Praise and positive reinforcement are effective methods of behavior management of children. When children receive positive, nonviolent, and understanding interactions from adults and others, they develop good self-concepts, problem solving abilities, and self-discipline. Based on this belief, Mountain Learn & Play uses a positive approach to discipline and practices the following discipline and behavior management techniques.

Conferences will be scheduled with parents if particular disciplinary problems occur. If a child’s behavior consistently endangers the safety of the children around him/her, then RAC has the right, after meeting with the parents and documenting behavior problems and interventions, to terminate child care services for that particular child. Note: If, at any point, there is an indication/suspicion that a child may have special needs, Mountain Learn & Play will inform the child’s family. My signature below indicates that I have received a copy of the discipline policy, it has been reviewed with me, and I have read and understand this policy.

Parents, we also want you to be aware of the Child Abuse Law. We understand that you may do discipline differently at home, however, here in the child development center we have different rules and regulations. Your child’s safety and well being are of the utmost importance to us. All staff within the child development center are mandatory reporters and are required to report any suspected child abuse by law.

    • They have a fever in excess of 101 degrees (fever must be gone for 24 hours without medication before returning).
    • Diarrhea (if two loose bowel movements occur, a parent or guardian will be called to pick up the child).

    • Severe cold
    • Excessive fatigue
    • Any contagious illness/infections diseases - https://www.healthgrades.com/right-care/infections-and-contagious-diseases/8-highly-contagious-diseases-you-should-know-about https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/infectious-diseases/symptoms-causes/syc-20351173
    • Head Lice- notify the staff and/or administration. - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/head-lice/symptoms-causes/syc-20356180

    • If there is an allergy or asthma please meet with the staff and/or administration to establish emergency & accommodating procedures.
    • All known medical accommodations that need to be made

You are the best judge of your child’s health and we trust you will not bring a sick child to the center. However, if in the opinion of the teaching staff your child is sick, we will call you to come and pick-up your child within the hour.

The following criteria will be considered in determining if your child must go home:

    • a fever of 100 degrees or more

    • unknown rash
    • excessive nasal discharge, especially if yellow or greenish, since this indicates infection
    • pain

If your child is sent home due to illness, they cannot return to preschool/child care until they have been free from symptoms for 24 hours without the use of a fever reducer, such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen. This is to allow your child ample time to recover and stop the spread of illness to the other children and staff.

After your child has been ill, it is important to adhere to the following guidelines when determining whether or not your child is ready to return to school:

    • Mood, appetite, behavior and activity are again normal
    • No fever for 24 hours without a fever reducer
    • Antibiotics (if prescribed) have been used for a full 24 hours (48 hours in the case of strep)
    • Vomiting, diarrhea cleared for 24 hours
    • Frequent coughing, excessive nasal discharge resolved
    • Pain (earache, cramps, headache, etc.) resolved

It is your responsibility to notify RKC if your child has a communicable disease or infestation such as: measles, mumps, chicken pox, or head lice.

Please consult with your child’s teacher, or administration, if you need additional information.

Children returned to the center with signs of illness or communicable disease will be refused admittance.

A medical log will be maintained to record any injuries/accidents or medications dispensed.

We are not authorized to give your child medicine. If they are on an antibiotic please be sure to give them their medicine before they come, plan to come give them their dosage at lunchtime if necessary, and/or wait to give additional doses at pick up or at home. We do have a medication authorization form if you will need us to give your child their medicine, this form must be filled out before we are able to do so.

    First Aid Policy

Rabun Kids Club makes every effort to ensure that all children are safeguarded and well cared for. The children are the center of our focus in all decisions‐making and arrangements. Rabun Kids Club sees adequate First Aid provision as vital in the daily process of caring for the children. We keep records of illnesses, accidents, and injuries, together with an account of any first aid treatment, non‐prescription medication or treatment given to a child.

The contents of the first aid boxes are checked regularly by senior staff. First aid boxes are restocked immediately when required.

Any member of staff can administer first aid to a child in line with the following procedures:

    • Administer first aid as appropriate
    • Call for help if appropriate
    • Call emergency services if required
    • Call the parents if appropriate Immediately after the incident
    • Record the incident/accident
    • Ensure that everyone relevant knows
    • Take any further action as required if an ambulance is required for emergency treatment, a senior member of staff will accompany the child to hospital.

Parents will be notified immediately. Staff members will call emergency services as soon as it becomes clear the injury is beyond our capability and the health of the child is compromised.

  • Recording Accidents and Informing Parents

Members of staff who deal with an accident or injury must record the incident on the Accident/Incident form and inform a senior staff member. Parents are always contacted if a child suffers anything more than a trivial injury, suffers a head injury, if he or she becomes unwell, or if we have any worries or concerns about his/her health.

Parents will be informed of the accident when the child is picked-up at the end of the session. The records are reviewed regularly and actions are taken to minimize the likelihood of a recurrence.

    Injury/Emergency Procedure

In the event of a physical emergency involving one of our students, immediate first aid, such as ice or Band-Aids, will be administered. If the injury is deemed extreme (fractures, head injuries, etc.), two things will happen, depending on the severity:

You will be contacted immediately using the emergency contact information you have given BRAT and informed of the injury, and we will follow your direction. In the event we are unable to contact a parent, the student will be taken to the nearest facility.
EMS (911) will be notified (if injury is deemed emergent), a senior staff member, and the student, will be transported to the nearest hospital via ambulance. During this time, attempts to contact the parent will continue.

The gym is not responsible for any expenses incurred under the above.

We follow the Centers for Disease Control “CDC” guidance under the childcare and camps programs for prevention and practices. We also comply with State and Federal guidelines as they relate to our learning facility.

  • Mountain Learning Enrichment, Inc. Biting Policy

At Mountain Learning Enrichment and Blue Ridge Activity and Tumbling Center, we understand that biting is a common behavior among young children, particularly toddlers, as they develop communication and social skills. While biting is a normal part of development, it can be concerning for parents and caregivers. Our policy is designed to address biting incidents in a manner that ensures the safety, well-being, and development of all children in our care.

    Understand Why Biting Occurs

Children may bite for a variety of reasons, including:

    • Teething discomfort
    • Frustration or inability to express needs verbally
    • Curiosity and exploration
    • Seeking attention
    • Overstimulation or tiredness

We aim to understand the root causes of biting and address them with positive behavioral strategies.

    Preventative Measures

We focus on minimizing opportunities for biting by:

    • Supervision: closely monitoring children, especially during transitions and high-energy activities.
    • Engagement: offering age-appropriate and stimulating activities to reduce boredom and frustration.
    • Teething solutions: providing appropriate teething toys and objects for children who are in the teething stage.
    • Teaching communication: encouraging children to express their needs with words, gestures, or alternative communication methods.

Immediate Response to a Biting Incident

When a biting incident occurs, staff will take the following steps:

For the child who was bitten:

    1. Comfort: the child will be comforted immediately to ensure they feel safe.
    2. First Aid: the bite area will be cleaned with soap and water. If the skin is broken, appropriate first aid will be administered.
    3. Parental Notification: parents of the child who was bitten will be notified about the incident and any actions taken.

    For the child who bit:

    1. Calm Response: the child will be calmly but firmly told that biting hurts and is not acceptable.
    2. Redirection: the child will be redirected to appropriate activities or alternative behavior.
    3. Removal: the child will be removed/isolated from the environment to allow time for them to calm themselves and think about what they did.
    4. Parental Notification: parents of the child who bit will be informed of the incident and how it was handled, including any patterns or possible triggers that may have contributed to the behavior.

    Documentation

All biting incidents will be documented in an Incident Report, which includes:

    • Time and Location of Incident
    • The context and possible trigger(s) for behavior
    • Actions taken by staff in response to the incident
    • Steps taken to prevent future occurrences

Both sets of parents (the child who bit and the child who was bitten) will receive a copy of the report, and confidentiality will be maintained by not disclosing the identity of the other child.

    Follow-up and Intervention

    1. Behavioral Monitoring: if a child bites frequently, we will track the behavior to identify patterns, triggers, and potential solutions.
    2. Parent Collaboration: We will work with parents to discuss strategies for handling biting at home and in the daycare setting
    3. Behavioral Support Plan: in cases of recurring biting, we will develop a plan to provide consistent guidance and intervention tailored to the child’s needs.

    Consequences for Repeated Biting

Repeated biting is defined as the act of biting multiple times in succession.

    • Short-Term Separation: if necessary, the child may be briefly separated from the group to calm down and reflect on their behavior. Short-term separation can be anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.
    • Temporary Suspension: if biting becomes frequent and poses a risk to other children (breaking the skin), the child may be temporarily suspended from daycare. This decision will only be made after consultation with the parents and following attempts to address the behavior. Temporary suspension can be from 1-10 days depending on the severity of the behavior.
    • Specialist Referral: if biting persists despite interventions, we may recommend consulting with a child behavior specialist to provide additional support.
    • Biting Hurts Training: parents will be required to complete a biting hurts training for their child to be able to return to school.

    Staff Training

    Our staff is trained to:

    1. Understand child development and the reasons for biting.
    2. Respond to biting calmly and appropriately.
    3. Use positive behavior management techniques to guide children in making better choices.
    4. Engage children in activities that promote social-emotional skills and empathy.
    5. Participate in a Biting Hurts course, that way they know what to look for and how to handle the situations appropriately as they arise.

    Positive Reinforcement

We emphasize reinforcing positive behaviors by:

    1. Praising children when they use appropriate communication, play cooperatively, or express themselves without aggression.
    2. Teaching empathy and social skills through books, games, and modeling positive interactions.

    Parental Communication

We believe in open communication with parents and will provide regular updates on their child’s development. If biting becomes a concern, we will work collaboratively with parents to find the best solution for their child’s development.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we work together to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for all children at Mountain Learning Enrichment and Blue Ridge Activity and Tumbling Center.

  • Head Lice Policy for Mountain Learning Enrichment and Blue Ridge Activity & Tumbling Center

At Mountain Learning Enrichment and Blue Ridge Activity & Tumbling Center, the health and well-being of all children is a top priority. To maintain a clean and safe environment, we have established the following head lice policy based on health authority guidelines and best practices. This policy applies to all children, staff, and parents to help prevent the spread of head lice within our facility.

    1. Detection and Prevention

    • Routine Checks: Staff will conduct visual head checks on a weekly basis or as necessary, especially after prolonged breaks (e.g., holidays, vacations).
    • Parental Notification: Parents are required to inform the center immediately if their child has head lice or has been in close contact with someone who has lice.
    • Hygiene Education: Staff will educate children about head lice prevention, such as not sharing personal items like hats, brushes, and hair accessories.

    2. Identification of Head Lice

If a staff member detects head lice or nits (lice eggs) on a child:

    • Immediate Notification: Parents will be notified to pick up their child promptly.
    • Temporary Isolation: While waiting for pickup, the child will be separated from others to prevent potential spreading of lice.
    • Confidentiality: The child’s privacy will be maintained. Parents of other children will be informed of the presence of lice in the classroom, but the affected child’s identity will remain confidential.

    3. Returning to the Center

A child may return to the center once:

    • Treatment Has Begun: The child has received an appropriate lice treatment (such as over-the-counter or prescription shampoo) and all visible live lice have been removed.
    • No Live Lice: Staff will check the child’s head upon return to ensure no live lice are present. It is encouraged that parents remove as many nits as possible before the child returns.

**Note:** It is not required for the child to be nit-free to return, as long as active lice are no longer present and treatment has started.

    4. Cleaning and Disinfection

Upon identification of a lice case:

    • Personal Belongings: Children’s personal items (coats, hats, etc.) will be bagged and separated.
    • Classroom Cleaning: All classrooms and common areas where the child has been will be thoroughly cleaned. Items such as bedding, soft toys, and carpets will be vacuumed and sanitized. Items that cannot be cleaned will be sealed in plastic bags for at least 48 hours.
    • Shared Items: Items that come into contact with children’s heads (e.g., brushes, bedding, pillows) will be thoroughly disinfected or replaced.

    5. Parent Responsibilities

    • Treatment: Parents are responsible for treating their child for lice using recommended products and following through with all necessary steps, including combing out lice and nits.
    • Home Cleaning: Parents are encouraged to clean their child’s belongings and environment at home, including washing bedding and clothing in hot water and vacuuming surfaces that may have come in contact with lice.
    • Follow-Up: Parents should conduct regular head checks at home for a few weeks after the initial detection.

    6. Staff Responsibilities

    • Ongoing Monitoring: Staff will continue to monitor for head lice after a child has returned and inform parents if any new cases arise.
    • Support for Families: Staff will provide guidance and resources to families on how to effectively treat lice and prevent recurrence.

    7. Recurrent or Chronic Lice Cases

    • If a child has repeated occurrences of head lice within a short period, the center may request a doctor’s note confirming that the child has been appropriately treated.
    • In cases of persistent or severe infestations, additional measures, such as further exclusion from the center or home inspections, may be required to protect other children and staff.

    Review and Acknowledgment:

Parents and guardians are required to review and sign in acknowledgment of this head lice policy upon enrolling their child in the center. This ensures that all families are aware of the procedures in place to manage head lice and agree to comply with the policy.

This policy is designed to minimize the disruption caused by lice while maintaining a compassionate and proactive approach to dealing with infestations.
