Qualifications:
This scholarship is for one graduating high school female senior of African American descent from each of the following schools: Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, May River, or Hardeeville Junior and Senior High Schools.
- Applicants must attend a 4-year accredited college, university, or post-secondary institution in pursuit of a degree within one year of high school graduation.
- Applicants must have at least a 2.75 cumulative Grade Point Average on a 4.0 scale in order to qualify for a scholarship award
- Applicants are required to submit a High School transcript in either a sealed envelope, uploaded with the application or emailed separately.
- Applicants from Hardeeville High School must have a Hardeeville home address.
- Submission of 2 typed letters of recommendation on business or school letterhead is required.
- A panel interview may occur. You will be notified by phone or email with the date and time of your interview.
- Applicants are required to submit a typed essay. The essay is an important part of the selection process.
**Essay must be double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, 250 – 300 words, one-inch margins on all sides with your name typed in the upper right-hand corner of each page.**

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded over 100 years ago on principles of scholarship and service. Describe how your educational goals connect to your committment to serving your community. Give a specific example of a time when you used your talents or leadership skills to make a positive difference.
In reviewing the essays, the selection committee will consider the following criteria in choosing winners, so we strongly recommend you have someone proofread your essay before submission:
- Creativity
- Correct use of grammar and punctuation
- Originality and quality of ideas presented
- Overall appearance of the essay
