    • About the In-School Savings Bank Program
    • The In-School Savings Bank (ISSB) program first began in Nebraska in 2002 through a partnership between schools and financial institutions to help children build lifelong saving habits. What started as a single collaboration has since expanded across the state, giving thousands of students the opportunity to practice saving, learn financial skills, and gain confidence in managing money.

Today, Cornerstone Bank's Leaders in Financial Education (LiFE) program is proud to partnering with local schools to operate in-school savings banks. Each week, students can make deposits, set financial goals, and learn the difference between wants and needs—all while developing money habits that will last a lifetime.

We’re proud to offer the ISSB program at Boone Central! The Cardinal Branch will officially open with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 9:10 AM. Cornerstone Bank will match up to $5 of each student’s first deposit.

All money goes into one school account, but your child’s deposits are tracked separately. A receipt with their updated balance will be sent home after each deposit. For more details, please see the "How does the In-School Savings Bank work?" section below.

If you have questions, please contact: Claire Kayton, BCES Principal at ckayton@boonecentral.esu7.org, Bill Curry, BCMS Principal at bcurry@boonecentral.esu7.org or Steven Ruzek, Cornerstone Bank at BooneCentralISSB@cornerstoneconnect.com.

    • How to Make a Deposit

1: Submit a parent permission form to enroll your student.

After your student is enrolled, they can participate in weekly deposit sessions every Wednesday at 8:30 AM at Boone Central High School—held at the concession stand in the commons area.

2: Send a deposit* with your student on Wednesdays!

Your Student will bring their deposit (cash or coins) the amount doesn't matter. It can be as little as a penny a week. The goal is to help them get excited about saving and form healthy habits. Cornerstone Bank will match up to $5 of your child’s first deposit!

*Deposits can only be made at the Cardinal Branch and not at other Cornerstone Bank locations. Please remember to send the exact amount for each deposit, as no change can be given. Withdrawals aren’t available during the school year.

      3. Fill out a deposit slip

6th Grade students will help as tellers, with Cornerstone Bank staff and school staff there to make sure everything is recorded accurately. Your student will have their own ledger so they can watch their money grow.

      4. Recieve Incentives

Your student will receive incentives for consistent saving! Again, the program is not focused on the amount. The goal is to help them get excited about saving!

      5. Receive your receipt

Our Student tellers will process the deposit and give your student a receipt showing your updated total for them to take home.

Please note: When a student graduates from 6th grade or transfers to another school, their participation will automatically end. A check for the full account balance will be issued to the student at that time. Parents/guardians may also request to end participation earlier by contacting York Elementary School or Cornerstone Bank if needed.
