The following form should be filled out by the by the person submitting a Letter of Recommendation for a student applying to the India China Institute's Starr Student Award. Submitters do not have to be Full-Time New School faculty. Letters are due by December 15, 2025.

Note to referee:

Your candid assessment of the applicant’s talents, accomplishments and potentials will be very helpful to the India China Institute Fellows program selection committee. Please compare the applicant with other promising students you know. Please use the questions below to guide your recommendation. 

When drafting your letter of recommendation, please consider discussing the following:

1.      How long have you known the applicant and in what capacity?

2.      What are the applicant’s academic strengths and weaknesses?

3.      Please comment on student’s work or proposed project and its relevance to ICI’s program themes.

4.      Please tell us anything else about the applicant’s character that might indicate their ability to work independently during the field trip, and to carry out their project to completion.
